(CNN) - A New Hampshire state legislator resigned his office Thursday after becoming the second Democrat in as many days to speculate about Sarah Palin's death on Facebook.

State Rep. Timothy Horrigan made the remarks Wednesday night in a thread discussing the Alaska plane crash that killed former Sen. Ted Stevens.

"Well a dead Palin wd be even more dangerous than a live one...she is all about her myth & if she was dead she cldn't commit any more gaffes," Horrigan wrote.


Horrigan was commenting on another post by a Democrat running for the state house, party activist Keith David Halloran, who found himself in hot water Wednesday after writing about the crash: "Just wish Sarah and Levy [sic] were on board."

After the controversy quickly gained steam Thursday, Horrigan sent a letter to the Speaker of the New Hampshire House offering his resignation.

"I apologize for thoughtless remarks I made which have brought this House into disrepute," Horrigan wrote. "I enjoyed my time in the House and I thank you personally for your support over the years."

Ryan Williams, a spokesman for the New Hampshire Republican Party, said Democrats in his state have "a widespread fixation" with Palin's death.

"Instead of discussing their failed economic policies, New Hampshire Democrats are now spending their time openly discussing Governor Sarah Palin's death," Williams said in a statement. "Rep. Horrigan's comments are sick, twisted and disgusting, and they must be immediately denounced by Governor John Lynch and Rep. Carol Shea-Porter.

There is just something about Palin that drives lib's wild. The out right hate she inspires is frankly amazing. I don't like her or care for her one way or another, and will probably not vote for her for president, but for the folks of understanding..

I have seen a few Feminists declare she can not possibly be a conservative feminist. So apparently Marxism and vagina's go together, which is a great selling point.

What do I dislike about Palin? Hmm. Aside from her rancid exclusionary identity politics, her mean-spiritedness, her attention-whoring, her passive-aggressiveness, her drama queening, her hypocrisy, her myopic views, her fight-picking, her victim-carding, and her simplistic and trite political stances, nothing. I think she's a grand ol' gal.

In other words, nothing but vague allegations of general badness that no one could really discuss or refute because they could mean almost anything. Got it. Screeling asked you what you specifically don't like about her, and all your complaints seem to amount to a reiteration of the fact that you don't like her, or maybe because she's a fairly normal politician in all those regards. Disliking her because she's a politician doesn't exactly tell us anything specific either.

It's the perfect shield to dismiss any criticism of her, by claiming that it's not pertinent to her, despite the fact that it has nothing to do with either of your points.
