While passing no judgment on the posts of Rynar, Arathain, Vindicarre, and TheRiov (except, perhaps, to note that by any measure Lex posted as the voice of reason) in the incident, I feel compelled to point to Micheal's actions as reprehensible in light of his active involvement in the altercation. The ethical course would have been for him to recuse himself from moderating and refer it to one of the others.

Thank you for your opinion Shuyung.

Since I am an unethical bastard, unfit for the company of this board, i see no alternative to recuse myself permanently as a moderator and leave the company of these forums.

Good bye to all, it has been on occasions fun. Those who wish to continue communications with my unethical self can e-mail me.

For my part, I am sorry. I could have split the thread off into Hellfire just as easily as Micheal.

It's too bad you could not simply recuse yourself from moderation and remain part of the forums.

That said, I'm sorry to see you leave, you've been around here for quite a while, and it's always sad to see one of the central members of the community leave.

Why not? Why criticize Mike? 'Cause he's a mod and he's supposed to be better?

Give me a **** break. Not passing judgment on anyone else, just Mike.

I'd not be a mod for you whining asshats for all the money .. oh, that's right, it's not a paid position. Why do it? Apparently 'cause he thought he could help. I'd say he has, myself. Not all have, some mods make your whiney *** look perfectly mature. Still, he did his best which is a damn site better than most of you *** monkeys would be able to do, on your best day.

I don't think the other moderators know how to split a thread. I probably should've put in a word after the thread but I was eating dinner and I forgot.

I think it was that, coupled with the "mod color" warnings to someone he was arguing with.

Similar to the complain several weeks ago about moderating in an argument you're taking part in.

I am aware, first of all, of who split the thread and locked the part that degenerated into crap. I noticed Moo in General at the time. It is not that to which I refer. Micheal took it upon himself to assume a mantle of authority in the segment for which he was a primary contributing factor of the altercation. He is entrusted, as a moderator, with responsibility that the rest of us do not have. One of those responsibilities is to avoid impropriety. Micheal had options that would not have compromised the trust bestowed on him, but he did not choose any of those options. Instead, he acted in a manner that calls into question his motives and interests.

This is a problem? DFK pulled that **** *all the time*. He would be in the middle of a debate, he would not like the way it was going, would attack a poster, then when that poster fired back, he would pick up his red pen and then try to browbeat that poster into submission. And the mods backed him every damn time. ****, what Micheal did was par for the course not too long ago.

And DFK is no longer a mod.

How is that pertinent here?

From what I recall, you didn't like it when DFK did it then, why is it OK now when it's not DFK?

Shuyung, you angst is misdirected. Michael was just trying to save a (really good) thread from going down the path of Hellfire.

Rynar was the one being the *******. He had three choices... of the three, two were better (let it go, or start a new thread), instead he chose to continue being an *******....

Actually, I didn't start it at all. It was Hypocrite Turtle who pointed out the laziness of the public employee. I only made a simple comment about my opinion in response to him (I suppose I should know better than to respond to devout intellectual cowards at this point, but I did.) My response was only my opinion, and it wasn't political anymore than his was. Micheal then added depth to the conversation, and brought it into the realm of political quagmire. Then he moderated a debate he was in the middle of, and which he was partially responsible for. Then the backseat moderation crew jumped in, and waved their tiny epeens around. Could I have stopped at any time? I suppose, but then I've already said as much. Does that make me an *******? Probably, but I don't really care.

I see what you're getting at, shuyung. I don't happen to agree. First, the comment that Micheal was reacting to was not directly part of the conversation between Rynar and himself, which, while tangential to the picture thread, was relatively civil. It wasn't until TheRiov interjected and Rynar responded that the situation started getting out of hand. "Go **** yourself" is not appropriate for General, and in particular for the Random Thoughts/Picture threads. It was not inappropriate for Micheal to admonish Rynar for a semi-unrelated infraction, just because they happened to be having a conversation.

Second, Micheal didn't actually do anything. He posted in "moderator voice". Posting in big letters and in a different color doesn't in and of itself exhibit any power, as evidenced by the fact that the argument went on for another 8 posts before I split the thread and locked the posts. After I had split the thread, I saw a thread in the mod forum of Micheal asking someone to deal with the situation because he didn't feel it appropriate for him to do so. This isn't the first time I've seen him ask for that.

I don't think Micheal did anything particularly wrong, and certainly nothing I would consider reprehensible. If you want, I will ask him and the other moderators to not post in "moderator voice" unless they plan to actually exercise their powers.

What the **** have you been smoking? This is a **** internet bulletin board, not a court of law where Mike presides!

I think you take this **** way too seriously and need to grow the **** up. Perhaps in your world the hallway monitor needs a drug test and background check before he assumes the mantle of authority, but, as I pointed out before, Mike did a better job on his worst day than I see you doing on your best. I think you need to take your envy of authority and find the perfect world you seem so eager to project on others and have fun with that.

Wait.. so someone suggests you do EXACTLY AS YOU NOW ADMIT YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE and they're labeled an asshat.

*chuckle* keep trying Rynar. Maybe someday you'll come across as something other than a petulant child.

Bullshit.

It's nice of you to hide behind both a forum with no rules when you impugn my ethics, as well as to introduce me into a thread in which I had no interest. Coward.

I admire and respect Rynar. I admire and respect Micheal.
Rynar made a flippant comment/joke/sarcastic quip, and it offended Micheal as he took it personally...they are both nice guys, they would have worked it out.
I am very surprised to see either one of them in the conversation they wound up in, but I have every confidence in the maturity of both Rynar and Micheal and were they left alone, I'm quite sure they would have come to some sort of gentlemanly agreement.
