Any suggestions on this? I primarily play Protoss so any tips would be helpful. I'm guessing maybe you see alot of people place single pylons to power tech / unit buildings so they are easy to smash quickly and attack once their production is offline? I usually try to duplicate Pylons for each building, as well as keep them in the interior of my base so they cant be sniped by a quick airborne strike.

The Rules for Pylon Placement ...

1. If a Baneling can get to it easily, it's in a bad spot.

2. If a Roach can range it, it's in a bad spot.

3. If a Hydra can range it, it's in a bad spot.

4. If a Banshee can cloak to it, you're doing it wrong.

5. If the Pylon is the sole source of power for more than once object, you're doing it wrong.

6. Make sure you when you drop that Proxy Pylon to not ignore the Queen beating down your prob.

My problem with reapers is that they're so one-dimensional they're only useful in a narrow span of time. I don't want to invest production or tech in a unit that will be made irrelevant as a matter of course. Even with other units that have hard counters, they either fulfill a role after they've been countered, or the counter can go away as the metagame of the match progresses and migrates away from their hard counter. Reapers are hard countered by upgrades to common and trivial units.

Which is a shame. I love the cliff-hopping mechanic (collossi are a way more versatile unit in this regard, IMO, because they don't suffer from the narrow band of usefulness), and they're one of the few forces Terran have available to them that are truly mobile. But as it stands, I usually just wish I had a different 4th option in my Barracks.

Colossi are so easy to counter though ...

They are in isolation. I wouldn't use massed colossi alone, I'd use a few to supplement a mixed force and melt infantry. And that's how I typically see them used.

I don't really ever see reapers used in mixed forces, though. Hence, my judgement that colossi are more versatile.

I always make a pack of reapers early on. I'll go back to them depending on whether or not my opponent has learned to close down the easy access to them.

Otherwise they'll be my constant spy network & worker harassment if they don't learn how they're getting in.

I like Reaper Rush Terrans. If I see a Reaper in production when my scout does his second run through of you're Main ...

The game's over.

Luckily for me, I play against people who suck as badly as I do!

I've never lost just because I dedicated some time to one of my barracks making some reapers.

Dropping 4 upgraded hellion's onto a protoss' workers is absolutely awesome when they finally realize what's happening.

So maybe I just suck, but Zerg seem to be very hard to get going, and Hydralisks seem awfully weak. I don't care all that much about playing Zerg, but I reserved 15 of my Practice League matches for them and so far I can't seem to get anywhere with them.

Zerg is not easy. You have to have incredible Micro and exceptional Macro play to win with Zerg. You also have to scout religiously, continually harass, and play map control.

So in other words I should just skip Zerg entirely. That's cool. They're my least favorite race. At least they don't have the "spam mutalisks which slaughter everything" thing going anymore.

Mutalisks are more expensive in SC2, but still functionally powerful units. They are, in fact, the least counterable unit in the game after Void Rays. But you have to expand early and play mass macro to sustain Mutas and Corruptor/Brood Lord is just as powerful with good micro. The problem with Zerg is that 1 base Zerg is very hard to play.

I find the more I simply remember to do the little things, the better I perform. I'm finally starting to get the hang of having 3-4 control groups, and am slowly building up the number of those.

Had a match on Debris field earlier as Terran against Zerg. They sure got mad when I dropped in 12 thor's when they had done almost nothing but go anti air & air to air.

Terran Mech is very annoying as Zerg, but I have some fun counter's for Thors.

I was going for a second base as fast as I could and that didn't seem to help.

Of course, in one game so far the other side seemed to get stealthed banshees amazingly fast, and battlecruisers the same in another and I wonder if there were some of those exploits you mentioned going on. I'm sure I saw one in another game I played a few days ago; one guy went linkdead and when the 60 seconds were up his buffy mysteriously had large numbers of battlecruisers with level 3 upgrades.

The mutalisks do seem reasonably powerful, but I don't know if they're that hard to counter. They don't seem to be nearly as devastating air-to-air as they used to be.

Is it impossible to upgrade all the unit / building trees in single player?

Starting to hear people complaining of people with map hacks. Basically able to see the entire map without having to scout or have line of sight.

Has anyone come across it? Saw a few threads on starcraftarena.net and a couple on the official ones, but I'm wondering how fast something like that will be fixed.

It's ultimately impossible to avoid because they once again designed the game so all connected clients have a complete picture of what's going on. Their attempts to patch it will be temporary measures until once again someone cracks it and figures out how to sniff out the information they want. The only way, ultimately, to avoid this problem is to run the game on a dedicated server, and only send information to each client that they are supposed to have. The cost of such a system would result in monthly fees (like WoW) so it was never in the cards.

Multiplayer RTS games will always have cheats.

I watch a lot of replays. I feel it helps me get better at the game because I can try out strats the pros use. I just watched this one, and while it won't really help me out all that much to get better, I felt it was one of the most entertaining games I've ever witnessed. It's kinda long, but sticking around for the end is well worth it, IMO.

Finished the campaign last night. Great fun, shitty ending.

Soooo, how does one complete all the Unit Upgrade achievements? I finished every mission with every bonus objective and wasn't even close to getting all them. If you restart the campaign do you keep your upgrades or something?

You have to choose. When you start over, you lose everything. Basically, you replay missions that have a lot of protoss/zerg research points(Zeratul's levels have a lot, as does the secret mission) using the exploit I posted earlier in the thread. Or, you save up a lot of credits, save your game and then buy all of the upgrades for one category to get the achievement, then reload your game and buy another category and so on.
