I'm hoping TheRiov actually READS what Khross is posting. Did you? I know he'll say that Khross started it first, but I tell you, in some sick way TheRiov is feeding off the conflict. Even if I'm wrong about that, he's sure not doing anything to tamper the coals... I think it's extremely interesting being on the outside looking in on this one.

Heck, he's apparently blaming Khross for Rynar replying to his "I hate you" PM.

Yes, I've read it all. It's a very Monte-esque circular argument and its not going anywhere except from thread to thread maybe. And yes, for whatever reason, he just won't let it die.

Let it die!!

Yeah, but he was given no slack by a lot of people. Constant dogpiling. I don't believe that if you had posted the same exact post, that you would be responded to by so many so venomously so often.

Huh. Can't say I'm surprised. The vast majority of this board has been fed up or annoyed at Monte for years.

That said, what is really disappointing is how none of the many many posters who have specifically targeted him over the years have had anyone call them on their behavior.

Monte absolutely needs to be responsible for his actions, yet that doesn't make all of the bullying that he's been a recipient of "ok".

It's been my observations that the "Don't be an ***" rule is VERY selectively used. I sincerely hope that changes in the future. YMMV.

There's only one poster that could really be said to be "specifically targetting him." Monty has not been the recipient of bullying, nor was there any need to call anyone else on their behavior. Other people have been out of line from time to time, but the fact that everyone else is not perfect does not mean Monty was somehow being victimized. This sort of thing comes up every time he's gotten in trouble, someone always wants to pretend that everyone else's behavior somehow is just like his because it wasn't perfect. When it takes the entire rest of the board to equate him in assholishness, the problem is not with the entire rest of the board.

Let's just say that our views on this are very different. Monty was everyone's favorite whipping boy.

I'd actually prefer that be the criteria for banning someone, actually. "The People" making the decision - 2/3rds or 3/4ths majority thing to vote someone off the island. Having it be a community thing seems more democratic. Moderation could work that way too - like slashdot's mod function, were people could mod posts up or down, go negative and it's invisible. People would get feedback, which is important when engaging in social activities.

It would be interesting to see what kind of vote I'd get...

I don't think you'd rack up any votes for getting off the island... myself on the other hand...

Ya know, re-reading this thread makes me realize I'm being a giant jerk by putting people on ignore. How can I tell other people to grow a thicker skin and then turn around and act like that?

Time to clear out the foes list.

How much trouble would I get in if I used that as my avatar?

That's an interesting thought, and it depends on how you perceive the purpose of the ignore feature. I performed an experiment about a month ago where I put something like 80% of the active Gladers on ignore just to see what it would be like. It's been rather interesting to say the least. There were threads in Hellfire where I could only see nine posts on a given page, and I have to say, I didn't feel like I was missing anything important.

Not in agreement with the ban myself, but I have no say in the situation, and what is done is done.

That's an interesting point, becuase I've seen forums with "no dogpiling" rules - and with those, you also have to have a rule requiring concession qhen you've lost an argument.

Posting like a rabid pitbull and acting like a complete douchenozzle in every "debate" does tend to bias moderators against someone, so he has a point that people were biased against him. Note, however, that this wasn't political bias. The moderators were never predominantly conservative, by any means. And i'm not sure that any such bias is relevant. Juries, for instance, tend to end up biased against defendants once they are proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

No. Well, yes. But that's not the point!

Actually, some guy I work with uses the term a lot.
