I just do not know how I feel about this:
Routh will get Superman screen test

Here is my problem with this....

I thought Routh was awesome as superman. And I would love to see him come back as the Man of Steel.

But according to the blog posting... And I take it as such merely a blog post. They want to go with a more confident and sure Clark Kent. This itself seems to point to a role that is catered to Tom Welling.

You're not missing anything.

Routh wasn't my ideal Superman, but he was far from being (one of the many, many) the problem(s) with SUPERMAN RETURNS.

Wow...well, I'm still going to watch the new movie.

I just read the article...and now I *really* want to see the new movie, and his screen test for the new Nolan reboot.

I thought Routh did well, for what the wanted him to do... which was be Christopher Reeve.

He was good in that respect. He played the part they gave him.

Tom Welling was born to play Superman. Nothing against Routh, but you can't fight destiny.

Unfortunately, he disagrees with you, and the world is a sadder place for it.

Anyone can play Superman. All you need is to shove a stick right up their *** and bam! Superman.

I just can't see him casting Routh, Nolan is working so hard to break away from Superman Returns.

Let's just hope the new Superman isn't quite such a creepy stalker.

Brandon Routh is awesome in Zach and Miri, in Scott Pilgrim, in Chuck, and he did as good a job as the project guidelines allowed in Superman Returns.

Clark Kent is supposed to be the meek and mild. I love Nolan but if Nolan makes Kent into more of a Bruce Wayne figure, that won't work.

Just as Bruce Wayne is irresponsible and Batman is ultra-responsible, Kent is meek and Superman is brave.

Bruce Wayne takes the easy way out, while Batman goes the extra mile.

Kent runs from dangers and crowds, and Superman runs to dangers and crowds.

Yeah, I completely don't get the bits of details the new direction is supposed to take. Does not compute.

I grew up with repeats of "Adventures of Superman" - George Reeves is the model all Superman actors are now measured by. He didn't run so much as disappear.

Remember that they CHOSE Routh to begin with because he looked and portrayed the part a certain way. The Nolan Reboot will take a different approach to Superman – which the reboot needs – and will have Kent be a confident and talented journalist. This adds a completely different feel to the character while both the mild mannered reporter and Superman will be confident characters with a strong presence.

Sounds like Nolan is basing his Clark Kent on the DCAU Superman, which wouldn't be a bad thing. Bruce Timm and company managed to make 4 whole seasons of interesting Superman episodes, which says something.

I've always thought Tom Welling looks like a good Superboy, but that's it. He doesn't look like a SuperMAN, and his voice coincides with that. Nothing against tenors, though.

Smallville did a few episodes where Tom gets stuck in more traditional adult Clark costuming (usually dream sequences, though I think there was an alternate reality one a couple seasons back, too).. and looks outstanding with the glasses and parted hair.

Off-topic, but this made me think of the Christian Bale vs. Superman gif (spoilered due to NSFW text):

:D

Back on topic: I hope Routh doesn't get cast again. Nothing against him as an actor, but I really hated the direction the writers/director took the character in Superman Returns, and I'd rather not have the association. I'd be down with Welling though.

I'd like to see Joe Manganiello play Superman.

But I'm sure I'm the minority. LOL

No, that's pretty damn perfect. I'd mentioned that to Phe a couple of weeks ago after seeing him on True Blood.

That's where I noticed him as well. Get him clean shaven, trim his hair and that looks pretty damn close to me.

Necro-Post!

According to Manganiello, he's actually on the shortlist of who will be playing Superman. Waiting to hear back on the final decision I think.

Interview with him.
