Space combat would have interested me if it were more "X-Wing" space-sim type and not a crappy rail shooter.

I get motion sick from the dogfight kind of games... like Doom, Quake, Unreal Tournament, Duke Nukem, etc.

The space combat in this game means I may actually be able to play...

Does...not...make...sense...The shooters you described and "dogfighting" space sims have nothing in common from a rendering perspective (other than being in 'first person', which is kindof irrelevant.) Did you ever play X-Wing or Freespace? I think you'd have a harder time getting motion sick with them than with an FPS game.

With the exception of Oblivion and Fallout 3, all first person games make me motion sick.

I had to swing Wing Commander into a follow cam, I has to do the same thing with Freelancer.

It started happening with First person games after a night long ago of drinking an entire bottle of Jose Cuervo Gold 1800 while playing Doom 2.

If the game were this, I would buy it.

Maybe they hold a grudge against the Sith for having their planet subjected to genocide?

Also, thank goodness it looks like they've dropped the focus on knives for scoundrels.

You don't understand. They can't be Consular, either. So no Jedi Shadow. Just Jedi Knights(Guardians and Sentinels). With the miraluka being so in tune with the force, you'd think if they were going to limit them to one class as they seem to being doing, it would be the jedi class that focuses more on the force rather than straight melee combat.

Also, I find it odd that they are still limited to the Light side anyway(even though I plan on playing Light side only and it shouldn't make any difference to me). There are two miraluka characters that I can think of period and both were dark siders(Visas Marr from KotOR2(she turned, but still started as dark side) and Jerec from Dark Forces 2).

Well, keep in mind that both the established Miraluka characters you're thinking of are the sole survivors of their planet (or species, for Jerec) who were spared solely because they turned dark side. They show up as characters (rather than being extinct with the rest of their community) *because* they're the exceptions.

As for not being consulars; Miraluka are noted as being attuned to the Force for their senses, not necessarily for being strong in the *use* of the Force. That's why they're such good martial artists, because they're always "fighting with the blast shield down" to borrow Obi-Wan's improvised training method. IIRC, the species write-up on SW:TOR's site even notes that they're most well noted as lightsaber combatants. Guardians are the lightsaber combat class.

Now, all that said, do I find it odd that a race is locked into only one class (where are you seeing this, btw?)? Yes, I think it's a surprising game design decision. Given that stipulation though, am I surprised it's not Jedi Consular? No.

I'm going by their stats in the KotOR saga edition book. They get force training free at level 1 and they get a -2 penalty to dex. That doesn't scream super awesome lightsaber combatant to me.

As for the class restrictions, there's no official word yet. But they've been showing class/race combos for the past couple of weeks. The way they word these articles leads me and many others to believe that the class/race combos they have been showing are the only choice available for that race. I'm hoping it isn't so, but it seems to be the consensus. Bioware and Lucasarts haven't said jack on the issue as far as I can find.

Katarr (That Darth Nihilus wiped out) was one of several colonies, not their homeworld. Their original homeworld was no longer inhabitable due to environmental reason, but the primary Miraluka adopted homeworld is Alpheridies, there was no recorded genocide of the species, even by Palpatine during the great jedi purge. Chances are, they're still quite existent in the NJO era.

Um, I'm pretty sure Palpatine had them offed en masse circa the purge years. You know, when he had Vader going around exterminating Force sensitives? There's no way he'd overlook an entire race of Force sensitives.

And I never said it was their homeworld, I said "their planet." It was one of their planets.

You'd think if that was the case, wookieepedia would have something about it on the miraluka page. It doesn't say anything about it, however.

Not a clue. People were thinking spring 2011...but I have my doubts. I wouldn't be surprised if it was sometime in 2011, just not spring.

Yeah, if it were Spring 2011 we'd be hearing about beta already, at the least. I can't imagine that they're going to plan for a short beta cycle on this game, with the amount of money they must be pouring into it.

Beta has already started. It's closed beta, but it has started and there is still the NDA in effect.

Oh. I hadn't seen the announcement that CB had started. When was the beginning?

Couple of months back. I think August. At least, I'm fairly certain. That's when I got an email telling me they were going to start selecting people for the beta. Let me go see if I can find the email.

EDIT:
I think I lied. The site still says they haven't scheduled the beta test.

EDIT:

Or maybe not. http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/09/star- ... -underway/

I had to go back kinda far for this thread. Damn. Anyway, according to an EA webcast thinger, Star Wars: The Old Republic is going into "high scale beta testing" by the end of this month. They are currently in "mid scale beta testing" right now. I'm not exactly sure what this means. I guess it could either mean they are going to let more people in to beta or that they are going to shift focus of testing to high end gameplay or they are going to test higher configurations.

Here's a list of some of the videos released at E3 just to have them all here:

Cinematic intro trailer:

A dev livestream video of some Tatooine footage and some QnA:

I'm still kinda meh about this. If it works, cool, but I have a feeling it'll be like all the other MMOs out. Lots of hype, first month or two people will be all over it, and then they'll all go back to WoW.
