So...

I'm awesome. You know this, and most of the time it doesn't need to be said. At work, I generally just go about my business, and people come to realize how awesome I am in their own time. All jokes aside, I rarely pat myself on the back.

But, this time - I'm amazingly awesome. People in my office should be basking in the glow of my awesomeness. Basically, I inherited an unmitigated disaster that, by all rights, should have cost the company about $125,000. I took over and it will now cost the company - nothing, and we will make a standard profit.

The problem is, since I have turned this unmitigated disaster into "normal" it will fly under the radar.

So, what are some ideas on how to bring attention to my awesomeness without looking like a jackass?

I really only have one character flaw - and it's that I'm way too humble.

Do you have an office buddy?
At my last job, one of my co-workers was the happy-go-lucky office buddy and the quickest way to spread good news was to tell him...he made sure it got to the boss' ears.....his survival skill in the office was keeping the boss happy by always bringing good news...find someone like that in your office and have a chat about your good deed.

Do what I do, keep a running CBA of your projects and turn it in as your self-eval. So far I am up to about $5M in growth and savings for this year, hoping to wrap some things up and jump it to $7.5 before YE.

I use the glow to my advantage - I apply for another job and ask for more money and my confidence when I relate my success has typically helped carry it off.

I've never seen a company value someone without a threat that they would leave, and I've never seen a threat work to the employee's long term advantage. It may have happened, somewhere, at some time, but I've not seen it.

Or, hide your success and escape the most likely consequence of your success... expectation that this is par for the course and all disaster projects will become yours.

Sage advice. That is how I ended up the resident firefighter for a year...

Either that or hold onto it as your ace in the hole when the boss has a problem with something else. This is something you can talk about when you need to ahve a one-on-one about something and he's choosing not to hear you.

If you pat a turtle on the back ... will he feel it? Maybe we should just knock. "Hellooooo in there. Well done!"

The overwhelming bulk of mine comes from new product roll-outs and we are short-staffed so any efficiency gains actually just translates into more growth from abandoned customer's and requests without reducing FTEs.

Thanks all. Ladas, yeah - that's been my MO for years. Hey, holy crap, look at this mess. Give it to Arathain, he'll fix it.

So I decided to be my typical passive aggressive self. "Hey, boss, did you hear how awesome I am???"
