I've known about the "building the lightsaber scene" for a while. I didn't know it was actually shot, but I do know they had built a working lightsaber prop with "innards" for that scene specifically.

Because it wasn't. View Hamill's comments.

I saw that. But then I saw an article that he later "remembered" doing the scene after having denied it. *shrug*

It's always been my understanding that it had never been shot.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but is it really a big deal if that was done in post or not? It still should count as legit.

Unless Lucas is greatly expanding the scope of postproduction, anyway. I mean, technically if he made it last year it IS postproduction... :p

As far as I am aware, what happened in the scene is canon. Whether it was shot or not is irrelevant.

It's been known for a long time (at least amongst the hardcore nerds) that Luke used parts from Ben Kenobi's personal stash on Tattooine to rebuild his lightsaber. And that his new lightsaber is similar in shape to Ben's purposefully (more out of honor to his memory, I think). Luke needed a new lightsaber after losing it in ESB, as there was no way he's recovering that thing.

Trivia: The reason why the saber is green? Because they couldn't get a blue blade to work against the sky background on the sail barge. So, green blades entered into canon.

I think got the PLANS from Kenobi's house, I don't recall that parts were from there.

The lightsaber lost on Bespin was recovered... just not by Luke. Vader re-claimed it.

Oddly both hand and weapon were turned over to the Emperor. The saber showed up in the hands of Luke's clone on Wayland, and was recovered by Luke. It then passed to Mara.

I suppose Vader wouldn't have wanted a reminder of his past. Still, I guess I never really thought of how that saber was passed down.

Well, I was talking about canon. ;-)

But that brings up a whole other debate that can make Star Wars geeks rage out more than anything: whether the EU is canon or not. Personally, I don't consider it canon (as much as I like a lot of it). I just can't accept the "White Current" as canon. I just can't.

Wookipedia has about 4 levels of canon. But EU has so much good stuff that really fits together well, I am willing to accept it.
