I'm just selling out all over the place here lately. If I'm not careful I might do something stupid like try to install Linux. It started because IE was giving me fits so I finally gave them the boot.

Rori, give Chrome a try. It's clean and fast. Faster than Firefox.

Yeah, I'm not much of a fan of Firefox. I use Chrome and IE8. (Although someone needs an IE skin for Chrome. I don't like how it pretends not to be a windows app. The lack of file/edit/view menus and the lack of standard toolbars irritates me, as does the drab flat-graphics of its interface. Firefox might be slow, but at least it fits in. But Chrome is lean and fast, so I keep using it.)

The lack of a menubar for Chrome doesn't bother me. I can get everything I really need from the document and wrench icons next to the URL bar.

This. I'm actually really happy with how they managed to do away with all the clutter and give you more display space.

And yet, there's no more viewable area in Chrome than there is in IE.

I hate interface-changing. I despise Office 2007/2010 for this reason. The ribbon sucks! Bring back my menus!

Also, my lone complaint about Windows 7: You Microsoft bastards changed my interface for no reason. There is NO REASON to move **** around. Keep it how it was!

not a fan of moving around Documents And Settings folders and actually LOCKING some of the folders even as an admin -- very hinky stuff going on with the windows 7 File locations

You better get used to Chrome Taly, because IE9 looks a LOT like it:

I'm a menu hunter too, but it seems the future belongs to people who want "everything" on their button bars.

I use chrome. I just don't like it, aesthetically or ergonomically. Note that even in IE8 you have to go in and turn on the menu bar...it's not there by default.

I also hated the new office ribbon. For about 3 days. Now I couldn't live without it, it's SO much better than the old nested upon nested upon nested menu system to find commands.

While I see the value of having standardized menus, I think that they impose limitations on UI design. Even Microsoft recognizes this.

Also, I'm not sure how you can make this statement. I opened IE, screenshot, chrome, screenshot, and there is CLEARLY much more visible space in chrome. (and I keep my bookmarks bar on permanently).

We all have our own aesthetic sense. That said:

It's not that Chrome is "pretending not to be windows app"; it's because Chrome a cross-platform application. They didn't want to have to deal with code for 3 (and possibly more) interfaces to the same application. As well, they want Chrome to look like Chrome no matter what platform you're using it on. As well, since Chrome is supposed to be the basis for the window/compositing manager in Google's upcoming Linux distro, they wanted to keep it as unobstructive an minimalist as possible, so as not to get in the way of applications. And, in any case, Google's aesthetic has always been one of minimalism.

Its really just a matter of personal taste, I guess. My own sense of aesthetics lean towards clean, minimalist interfaces. As such, Chrome actually blends in quite nicely with both my Gnome desktop at home and my Windows 7 desktop at work.

Good point Stathol... I have chrome installed on my 'other' platforms (Mac and Linux), and for the rare occasions that I use them these days, I appreciate the standard interface across all 3.
