So I am exactly 3 days from starting classes at a real University and not just some Community College. I have enough credits and classes taken that I transferred in as a junior or senior. (I believe senior)

I am nervous. First thing... 08:30 am I take my first real class. I am considering the 100 and 200 level courses as not real courses, they were practice. From what I understand the 300 levels are where they really are not teaching you information, but beginning to make use of the information you have learned and really begin to form real knowledge on your own.

So now is when I begin to worry... am I really smart enough to go into UNLV? Or am I just a stupid former druggie burnout who has delusions of grandeur.

And 08:30 am.. what the **** was I thinking taking management 301 at THAT time of the morning??

my schedule is;
Tuesday and Thursday:
MGT 301 08:30 to 09:45
GER 113 11:30 to 12:45

Friday:
ENG 407A 10:00 to 11:15

This 400 level class really scares me. This class is business writing. I have always been fairly proficient with English classes (My penchant for transposing my N's and G's when putting them together non withstanding); but now also comes the fear of failing and washing out of college. CSN does not work that way, they take any asshat that pays them every semester.

And to top it all off, my severe insecurities are going to be magified by 9001 times as I will be surrounded by people from all over the world who will get to watch me struggle with what they consider mundane educational goals.

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

ds,
Put the fear away. You deserve to be there more than 75% of the people who've walked through those halls. If they're paying attention to you, then they're part of the aforementioned 75% - they aren't there increase their knowledge, they're there because they think it'll be their ticket to a job they'll be handed at graduation, or because Daddy expects them to go if he's paying.

Go to class, pay attention and you'll be golden. You rock, man.

Oh, and keep the staring at the co-eds to a minimum ;)

Darksiege,
You'll do well there, those are just normal insecurities. More than likely, the majority of your classmates, minus the few super-brainiacs, will be feeling butterflies also. It's normal. Keep forging ahead, and very shortly, you'll be posting about graduation!

I have about 15 minutes before I can go home, jump into mah jammies and rest. Been up and going since 6am....

Class was cool on the first day. Work: stressful. Think I am going to enjoy UNLV. It will be some hard effing work though.

Anticipatory fear is the worst kind. Don't worry, DS, you can do it. You'll see once you get there.

As someone who has taught those level of classes, it's not so much a matter of being smart enough as being willing to learn and being able to understand what the professor is trying to get across to you. And, if you don't understand, being willing to ask (either in class or office hours).

Of course, there are numerous points at which this can break down, not least of which is the ability of the professor to get his or her point across. That's not always a given. But, the school obviously thinks you have a good enough base knowledge to be able to hold your own in that environment.

Don't worry, man, you'll be fine. It'll be fun.

When do classes start? Oh, I see you've already started. C'mon, man, tell us how it went!

20 hour days on Tuesdays and Thursdays are going to hurt.

I am going to need to stop at home and grab sandals on those days as I head to work.

I put it in the other thread.

Any chance I could request moderation combine the threads?

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3978 is the other thread

Keep it up, DS! I'm about to dip my toes back in the water myself, but only a class or two at a time for now...

Turn your fear into hatred for the institution. It's working for me.

I'm already hating the University. The U of A doesn't give a crap about their undergrads and I'm going to have to go through all kinds of weird hour bullcrap for one class with them. I already miss the community college. At the very least, the teachers treated me like an adult and it was cheaper. Now I'm paying almost $500 a credit hour and I anticipate the level of instruction I receive over the next 2 years will be worse because I seem to land 1st time TA's as "professors."

I got really lucky. My Management professor is a 35 year tenured veteran teacher who is just awesome. My German professor is a veteran instructor and works with the National Council for Languages and International Studies.

I get to meet my English professor tomorrow.
