Yeah, I want Cash. I want Echo. I want my pets. It's like saying "well, your mom will be there, but it'll be a different mom. But she'll treat you like her own son." It's just...not right.

I fully expect to see Cash when I get to heaven. I don't really think there's an alternative to that, no matter what interpretations may say. *shrug*

Isn't this an appeal to consequences argument? It's unacceptable that pets not in heaven so they must?

Farsky has no responsibility to logically argue his stance. It's his personal belief, and he's not trying to tell anyone they should believe the same. There's no argument here.

^^ This.

That's why I posted it in Heckfire.
I just want to hear what others think, and share thoughts and explanations...not argue about it.

An argument is "a set of one or more meaningful declarative sentences".

Does this apply to exes as well?

I don't know. If you want to go completely off biblical doctrine, there is not a lot said on the concept. There will certainly be animals in New Jerusalem and even the "wild" animals are tame there. I'm disinclined to think so, as I don't think animals have a spirit that goes on after the failings of their mortal bodies.

As a fan of HP Lovecraft and HR Giger... that statement has horrible, horrible nightmare inducing allusions.

No matter your belief, that explanation sounds pretty crappy imo. I wouldn't want a new pet. I want my pet, god dammit.

Wait, so pets go to hell?

There's nothing that says your pet can't be present in heaven just because he doesn't have a soul (if he doesn't, which I really have no idea about). God can very easily return an animal to life any time He pleases. He could easily simply restore your pet to you in Heaven if it pleases Him and I don't see any reason it wouldn't,

Well according to some I've been told that Hell is the absence of God's presence. Yet the bible clearly states that all creatures bow down to Him, so clearly ARE aware of His presence. Is their submission to God a choice? or do animals lack free will?

Kaffis: Pets don't go to hell, they just apparently cease to exist when they die.

I like this explanation....it follows the bible, in that animals don't have souls and don't go to heaven....but that God could just re-create our pets after the rapture or whatever.

Kate, I was making a joke based off the last phrase of Lenas' post.

As i stated, "biblically," there is no support for this one way or the other. Even your pastor is stating his own opinion, as the question you asked is not directly answered in the bible. However, as to the question of "souls," the bible does refer to the souls of animals the same way it does people. (The bible also says the soul dies at death, so the entire concept of "having a soul" is inferred rather than directly in the bible.) The comforting answer is, "The bible doesn't say. I'm sure God has it all figured out."

Do Angels have souls?

Is there a requirement that one has a soul to exist in heaven?

That depends a lot on what you mean by soul. The Bible goes into very little detail on angels, and their nature, nor does it explain terribly clearly exactly what Heaven is like or how it works. No one could really answer these questions definitively.

I guess my point goes like this.
Angels clearly exist in Heaven.
If humans are the only things with souls then Angels must not have them.
ergo, Angels must exist in Heaven without the souls, so theoretically other things could too.

Of course all arguments are moot in the face of 'ominpotence' the concept of an Abrahamic god who can simply unmake or change the rules, including His own makes such discussions useless.

Well as a general rule God follows His own rules for Himself because otherwise he would not be Who He Is, in much the same way that if you acted totally different you'd be a different person.

Your argument also makes the assumption that humans are the only beings with souls at all, when really the discussion realtes to earthly beings. It's also entirely possible that an Angel is a soul that has no physical body and never has, since they are not creatures of the universe. The concept of a soul may be sometihng only relevant at all to physical creatures. We really don't know. You could be correct.
