Quite pleased with my improvement since watching the video's on the channel I linked a page ago. I've pulled my 1v1 record up to 21 & 21.

Probably the same reason one started cussing me out for having the gall to build battlecruisers.

Not sure why you think Battle Cruisers are awesome.

I got accused of map hacking the other day. Looking at the replay, I can see why he was pissed. I happened to get to his expansion just as he got it going.

But really though, on a small map with the expand on my way up to him, of course I'm going to check it out. He shouldnt have been surprised.

They're very effective units, especially in conjunction with others. If you keep them with marines and medevacs, people always focus fire on the BCs just because of their intimidation value. That gives the marines plenty of time to stim and the medevacs time to heal them from the stim. If the enemy has only ground units, even better. People often start making mistakes when they see big units coming at them.

In any case, the guy that was cussing me out clearly though they were awesome since he resigned as soon as they punched out his first building.

I've had this happen enough times that I'm sure at least some of them have been hacks.

On the Stalker vs. BC Issue. That's 10 Stalkers vs. 4 Cruisers ... around 2:40.

That is 10 stalkers vrs 2 Battle cruisers and then killing another 2 that are busy shooting an assimilator. But they did die quickly.

Yeah, there's some poor management from Bratok on that one, but it's still kind of the point ...

Even if they're there to soak damage, Battle Cruisers are generally ineffective in PvP.

How does moving up in ranks work? To go from Bronze to Silver? Since making a pretty big leap I've had a win streak of 6, 3 losses, a win streak of 8 and then a single loss.

I think I'm rank 34 in my ladder. It's starting to feel like the people I'm going up against aren't even fair matches. So when might I expect to get bumped up to silver? Is there a known formula for how to tell or does it just happen at some point?

You get bumped up when you beat 3 of 5 consecutive Silver placed challengers when you're in the top 20 in your Division. At least, that's the best theory I've seen on it so far.

Especially since there are no BC's in PvP! Seriously though I agree with you it seems like the bigger units need to hit some critical mass to be really effective. Especially if you have them just cruising around without support.

At a certain number they just vaporize anything that gets in range, but if the stalkers can all get in range at once it's lights out. Blink seems awesome for that and you saw WhiteRa do it there without even needing to. The terran was asking to get stomped by leaving them on their own in such small numbers.

When he gets that arc going or just binks in range its killer. Void Rays are the same deal

Thanks Khross.

So I'll just keep climbing my way to the top 20.

I think I should of won against my last loss to a Protoss player, but didn't have my ghost on the field in time before his mass stalker army hit.

Mass Stalkers are very hard to counter early. They're very cheap, very mobile, and perform well against almost all units.

I had 3 barracks down at the time he hit with a ghost academy building. 2 barracks were pumping out Marauders, 1 was pumping out double marines. I had a tank in play but hadn't gotten the siege research.

Ended up chewing up my force pretty viciously.

Sounds like you went for Ghosts too early. I usually don't throw down a Ghost Academy against Protoss until the mid-game. You have a natural advantage in cost per unit that you should make work for you as Terran.

Hey Khross how do you do against Chargelots and Templars? I'm seeing all over people advocating that mix vrs Terran and I'm going to give it a go. Does it give terran ball a lot of trouble if the Storms are well placed?

Khross:

Hrm it was my understanding I wanted a ghost as soon as possible against Protoss so I can use EMP against the shields.

I'll try pushing that until much later then. Thanks.

Chargelots are a "cheap" way to get a ball contain for the Storms, but Templars can only cast 1 Storm and a Feedback on a full bar of Energy. If the ball chews up the Chargelots, you just micro out of the storms and the Templars are pretty easy to snipe. EMP does a pretty good job of demolishing it, too.

The reason Templars work against Terran isn't Storm as much as it's Feedback. Feedback destroys Thors, Ghosts, and Med Vacs if timed properly. And a good mix of Stalkers, Immortals, and Colossi will can manage the ball. That said, you have to be really good at Micro to make Templars work for you. But you still need Sentries.

Personally, if I'm Terran, I push Hellions with Pre-Igniters deal with the Chargelot/Templar Combination.

I think I just won the most undeserved victory of all time. I was playing my final placement match for 1v1 (mostly I've been doing 2v2 up to this point) and it was on one of those maps with a very narrow ramp, the kind you can block with 3 supply depots, to your opening base.

I got my barracks down fast and started plugging the ramp with depots. When the 3rd depot is about 1/3 of the way done, a group of zerglings shows up, clearly going for the fast easy win. I only had one Marine with the second one almost done, so I wasn't sure if he could kill the Zerglings fast enough since this was so early there were no stimpacks; I didn't even have refineries down yet. I made sure the barracks que was full.

Well, the zerglings didn't get up there all together, the first 2 were a bit ahead of the other 4 so one died before they caught up giving the SCV time to finsh. I set him to autorepair (thankfully he finished building inside the barrier) and a second marine was there by that time and they killed 3 more zerglings. The other 2 retreated.

Feeling relived that I stopped the superfast rush, I get another SCV building a second barracks to start building forces while I move up the tech tree.. and as soon as he drops the floor of the barracks to start building it, the victory screen pops up! The guy quit after his initial rush failed and gave me the game!

Anyone experienced anything like this? I was astounded. I ended up in Silver BTW, 3-2 record for placement.

I've gotten that maybe 3 or 4 times from zerg players & one zealot rush player.

Beat the fast rush & all the sudden they just vanish.

Usually, you see that when they overcommitted to that early rush. If you commit hard to it (building production before any workers, for example), and can't cripple your economy with the all-in gambit, they figure they're behind you economically enough that they're boned.

I don't agree with using that as an excuse to quit, but I can understand it. The other possibility is that perhaps that's their one trick, and if you don't succumb to it, they don't have the knowledge or skill to follow-up with a mid-game.

It can't be that early if he already had a barracks with a marine and wall of three supply depots. But, normally yeah. An early rush like that likely means 6 pool or possibly 10 pool. 10 pool is more likely considering how much DE was able to have built already. In those builds, your economy is basically balls and it should be an easy win if the rush doesn't win the game.

Zerg is Zerg ...

It's an entirely different beast in SC2. If you're just getting your 3rd SD down, either you've got a bad build order, or you stopped his Scouting party.

I'm starting my 3rd Hatchery, my second gas, and mutating a Lair around then (26 or 27 supply). The Speedlings are just there to keep you busy until I decide which real tech needs to eat you ...
