I think this is a bad idea. You certainly aren't going doing the cause any favors and won't be winning any Muslims to Christ with an attitude like that. Also the irony of protesting a deplorable yet legal building project with a deplorable yet legal book burning is not lost on me. I will however defend to the death your right to protest in this manner.

Where is our President in all of this? It was necessary in his eyes for him to mediate a dispute between a private citizen and a local cop, but this is somehow a issue outside his role and scope?

I don't understand how anyone can rationally say that Jesus would approve.

People wouldn't draw pictures of Mohammed unless they knew it would piss off Muslims. Same thing here. The intention is to do something offensive to Muslims.

I've got to agree with Lex here. They're both just signs of disrespect for the religion and the people.

Same as burning bibles, flags, or the neo nazi march in Ill, constitutionally protected *** hattery.

I have a really hard time referring to inflammatory assholes as being "brave." It's true in a technical sense, I suppose, but they don't deserve that amount of respect.

Knowing how much I love my country, and my ambivalence toward Islam, I'm surprised to say that I find it more disgusting than flag burning. I guess it's the ignorance of the act; what burning a book represents on so many levels is viscerally abhorrent to me.

There are certain things that creep me right the **** out. Burning books is one of them. A crowd of any size chanting in unison is another. Both show an incredible lack of independent thought and, usually, an ignorance that together, terrifies me.

General Petraeus evidently asked the "pastor" in question not to burn the Korans as it would fuel hatred and endanger the troops but... evidently was turned down.

Completely untrue. There are lots of other reasons to draw pictures of Mohammed other than piss off Muslims, the fact that it antagonizes Muslim's is usually a side effect and not the purpose of the exercise. The public burning of the Koran? Not so much.

Don't move goalposts, Rynar. We aren't talking about drawing Mohammed in general. Draw Mohammed Day was expressly meant to anger followers of Islam. Much like Koran burning is likely to do.

This. The two events are directly comparable.

They are the same: both are rather ill thought out ideas fortunately protected by our first amendment rights. Much like the ground zero mosque. I would hope he changes his heart between now and Saturday. However if he doesn't then the government shouldn't try to change it for him.

In a diverse society, the only way to protect your religious freedoms is to protect everyone's religious freedom (incidentally this is different than protecting people from religious influence. The ability to worship openly and have opportunities to influence people is part of that freedom.)

Much as I'd support his right to walk through Harlem waving an "I hate Niggers!" sign, but not a request that a protective police escort accompany him while doing so... this is just dumb.
