I don't see the point in drinking any alcohol unless it is to get drunk.

That's a shame, because alcohol can be pretty **** delicious.

No alcohol I've ever tasted. Besides, just the smell of it makes me want to puke. Believe me, I used to be a heavy drinker in high school.

There's a big difference between the **** you get plastered on while you're partying with 19 year-olds versus a nice bottle of something you get to drink while relaxing at home.

Indeed. 'Alcohol' as a general term covers so much. From the cheap pitchers/6 packs of beer to get drunk off volume, to the murderous shots that are more about the experience (and drunkeness) with taste not a concern to any degree, to the $5 for a tiny drink even at a cheap bar which do tend to have a wide variety of tastes, to a personal bottle of wine or liquor that you have a glass or two of every now and then purely for the taste.

I'm sure there are more, but the point is that alcohol experiences vary a ton. I've never done the mass beer thing, and the only shot(s?) I've had were more done in the name of science to experience it firsthand than anything. I do like me a good mixed drink now and then, however, and every time I go to the bar... which is never now that I have left my grad program... I would always have one or two new ones I'd try out. Except at the local Mexican restaurant which had an awesome margarita.

Even got a bit into mixing my own, though it's somewhat unforgiving. Drop $50+ for a few bottles of stuff to mix a drink that sounds really good... then you better like it or get really creative with the remaining 95% of the bottles.
