Personally, I think the whole over-reaction is silly. I mean, as a Christian, if someone were to decide to burn a bunch of Bibles for some reason, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest...it doesn't affect me or God one bit.

Unless they were to try and take my Bible to burn it...cause that book is mine. Of course, if they'd pay me enough to replace it, I'd hand it over and tell 'em to have fun.

It's just an object, whose contents are more important than the physical presence of the object....and the contents are freely available.

A book burning may start small. It may be 100 or 1000 burned today. But if his movement gains any momentum... tomorrow it could be 10,000 or 100,000.

This kind of escalation is what can cause a dark ages type of issue where valuable information ends up lost.

I really don't think that's a worry. It's not the same situation as the Fahrenheit 451 scenario. Noone's trying to suppress knowledge, they're just trying to piss someone off.

I mean, I think the likelihood of all the Koran's disappearing are about the same as the likelihood of flag burning "catching on" to the point of all flags disappearing.

let me get a bit more into how I feel about book burning...

A book is merely ink and paper that represents ideas in a (mostly) formatted method. This representation is knowledge.

To be willing to allow disgust, hatred, anger, etc. to aggrieve you to the point where destroying what is represented in those pages is abhorrent to me.

I, darksiege, am an opinionated and often anger driven creature. But for me to see something posted or stated by Khross (he has referred to himself as Dr before and he is a professor so I would assume he has been published) and disagree with it is all well and good.

But for me to be so pissed off at him that I would go out, search for his writings (his knowledge) and destroy as many copies of his writing as I can.... that is destroying the knowledge that he has made available to those who cannot learn directly from him.

I consider it just as detestable to destroy the works of Mark Twain, Anton LaVey, Allister Crowley, L Ron Hubbard, etc.

It is showing that your ignorance and asininity is in support of keeping the masses stupid as long as you get your way.

This is not the Inquisition. We are not in the Dark Ages. Humans claim to be the superior life form on this planet.. act like it or have the decency to bring yourselves to extinction.
