Site says it's at my local liquor store, I'll have to search for it. They have a good selection but I've never really gone through them all. Must have missed it!

Much <3 for this thread! In general, I love a good IPA/ESB/bitter above all other beers - current favorite being Highland Brewing Company's Black Mountain Bitter. It's a seasonal brew that sadly finished this year's run just a few weeks ago, I have two more left in the fridge.

I haven't tried some of the IPAs I've seen in this thread though and that means I have something new to go find :)

In other news a great local hero opened up a beer garden and market directly along my commute route home (where the aforementioned Black Mountain got bought). I love being able to go somewhere that I can ask for a pint of bitter.

I grabbed a sixer of Ranger last night and it's pretty delicious. Tastes like a tree. Or marijuana. Or both.

It makes online searching for vendors for alcoholic products in Texas illegal.

Local brew ain't good enough for you Cowboy? Do your own damn legwork, no cheating on th dang innertubes.

Tasted recently:
Hop Juice Double IPA (meh)
Small Batch 471 Double IPA (fantastic - very comparable in taste to Maharaja!)

One warning about Maharaja, if you find it on draft don't bother. I've had it thrice from a keg and it's always sweeter than the bottle variety, which I think detracts a lot from what originally got me hooked. Usually I prefer draft, but not in this case.

That's interesting news. Sadly, I suspect my friends and I will be unable to leave it untasted. If we don't like it, at least now we'll at least be able to say we were warned.

One of my more favorite ironies of living in Texas. "LIBERTY!!!!RARRR!!!!"

"What, you want beer? Check your calender, your clock, make sure the wind is blowing in the right direction and don't ask fer it on a sunday"

One of the guys I work with, originally from Texas, likes the fact he can go down to the store and pick up beer on Sunday. He also thinks Lone Star Beer is one of the worst brands around, he's a Corona fan (go figure).

When he goes home to visit he makes a point about complaining about the dry laws to his brothers, just to annoy them.

If he's a Corona fan, ask him how he feels about Rolling Rock (and recommend he give it a try if he hasn't already).

He's had Rolling Rock, and likes it. I've had that discussion with him when we hit a local restaurant that serves it after work.

Good call Shel.

Texas may have made this hard to track down, but I did.

And it's pretty good!

Lone star is wretched. However, San Antonio actually has decent beer available. Large German population, apparently. Also, there are bars here that don't serve anything beyond beer and wine. Blasphemy. There are even "ice houses" where folks bring their own beer. WTF? This offends my Wisconsin sensibilities.

Hercules Double IPA is on the "thumbs up" list.
Not quite as good as the Maharaja or the 471, but still pretty good.

I've added a new brew to my list of favorites:

Fair warning, for those who wish to give it a try - it's listed as 8.5% ABV, but it kicks like 10.5%

Update:
Ranger is a heck of a lot tastier on tap.

Also, I've tried (and enjoyed) 3 more Black IPAs recently:
Twisted Pine's Hoppy Knight
Deschutes' Hop in the Dark
Stone's Sublimely Self Righteous Ale

Had one of these a week or two ago. Something about winter and stouts, it's just so... perfect.

The only problem with this thread is now I want a Ranger something fierce.
