This could turn it around for Superman.

I'm excited. This should finally get us a Superman film that's out of the campy shadow of the previous films.

I really hope so. I like campy movies...but Superman really shouldn't be one of them. All Superman movies to date have been downright horrible.

Superman is inherently leaning towards the camp...

Lex Luthor vs. Superman - only a fight because Supes is a boy scout
Metallo vs. Superman - only a fight because Metallo runs on Kryptonite (most versions)
Brainiac - closest to a good fight outside god-like entities, and a blood grudge due to Kandor and similar history
Darkseid - he's god-like and Supes will stand toe to toe with him.
Myxlp... - yeah, camp
Bizarro - whoa, camp

Jimmy Olsen? Camp

Maybe I've read too much Golden/Silver Age Superman, but Superman has more camp options than a trust fund kid with diplomat parents.

I'd like to see a screen version of Dark Knight Returns, done as straight as possible.

With the team above doing it I'd go to the opening midnight showing.

First shot of Cavill as Superman in costume (spoilered for humongo-size):

Spoiler:

I don't know that the super-apparent texture is really working for me right now, but it might grow on me.

Here are a couple of shots of Cavill looking very Kent-ish:

I think somebody missed the memo. It's his Superman persona that's supposed to have the Superman curl.

Well, it appears those images are from Comic-Con (check out the dyspeptic fellow's badge), so I dunno if it's accurate that the curl will be on Kent. I just shared these because he looks very Kent-ish in them, to give a feel for that.

Wait ...

I think you're missing something important here. Nolan is producing this movie after he makes a Bane flick. So now he's just going to set Zack Snyder on fire and throw the burning, still living body at the fans.

Oh shush Khross. This will be better than any of the previous (see: bad) superman movies. Yes, they ALL suck.

No they do not. I love the first two and I really like Returns.

I agree that all available Superman films are...not good. The first comes the closest to being "good," and two-thirds of it is a really great film. Then Lex Luthor enters and the whole enterprise goes to hell. Conversely, Zack Snyder's never let me down. So, things are looking good.

Pics! You know what, the costume's growing on me.

There's a fourth pic too (with cape), but attachments are capped at three.

Yeah, pretty busy costume. I don't think it would detract from the movie experience though.

It might be fine in moving pictures, but that costume doesn't look right in stills...

I look at those pictures and in my head I see:

A smoky room full of screaming middle-aged women (and some men) and suddenly the spotlights shine upon the stage and you hear, "All right all of you kitty cats! Are you ready for this?! Here comes our next dancer who not only has buns of steel, but he is an entire man hunk of steel! He's faster than a speeding bullet, but slow enough for some pleasure! He's able to leap tall buildings, so don't be shy any of you gorgeous amazons out there! Get out your purses and give it up for Chippendale's own.... SUPERMAN!"

Come on guys. This kind of suit is much more realistic than a cloth or spandex onesie that can magically withstand anything.

It looks fine and it'll be better in the actual movie. You know how much post work goes into the characters themselves?

Like I said, I like it. The texturing's still a little heavy for my tastes, but it looks a helluva lot better than any Superman costume before it.

Looking realistic isn't really the point of a super hero movie. You want them to look iconic. Sure, it kinda looks like Superman's costume, but it's different enough to know it isn't.
