Taamar has no choice, the heater has no 'off' setting just a minimum temp. The bastard comes on every time the temp inside drops below about 60 no matter what I do.

We don't own the house, and the thermostat isn't malfunctioning. It's designed to never let the temp drop below a predetermined threshold.
Since the thing is working as intended and the threshold is reasonably low (I think it's closer to 50 than it is to 60), there's no reason to replace it. Taamar's just ***** because she LIKES it cold inside and she loves being melodramatic about it :P

Crazy cold-weather lovers. Y'all should be forced to live in northern Alberta.

Me, I could live my remaining days on a beach in Brazil without complaining. (Although my remaining days would be however long it takes the microwave to cook a redhead.)

Give me 65-70 degree weather with no sunshine and I couldn't be happier.

GOOMH.

I have to say, that I miss the Autumns of my youth. I'm not sure whether it's climate cycles or my moving around since then, but I miss when highs dropped to the high 60's about a third of the way through September.

I revel in crisp October mornings. I love to savor that cool, dry feeling as the light breeze stirs on your face when you walk, shrugging into your jacket, out the door to see the pale slanting sunlight of the early morning drifting down to bathe the falling golden leaves across the street. There's nothing like it.

Most interesting thing about Utah is that you can use your heater and your central air cooler, both in a 12 hour period. Doesn't happen throughout the year, but it happens.

The same thing happens here from time to time... if you have an AC and want to use it at 95 and feel that you need to turn the heat on at 45.

This was my experience last year. Good stuff.

So far this year, no need for it yet. I still have a "free tune-up" coming to me this year. Free in that when you pay 3 grand, you get a 50$ tune up for free, what a steal.

QFT

Nothing worse in the world than being cold. I would rather walk around sweating my *** off than be cold.

Nah, I hate to sweat. I'm with Shel.

Probably a better way to die, too - freezing to death, that is. I mean, you just lay down and sleep. With heatstroke, you get hydration, sunburn, all sorts of good stuff.

Of course, there are many more mosquitoes (sp?) in wintry climes, than in the desert.

Human core body temperature is 98. Anything lower than that is, by definition, cooling you down. You don't need frost for our biological heat sink to function.

So, you don't have problems when your computers are running in ambient 150 degree rooms, then, because, after all, they're still being cooled?

yes and no Talya. While its true that your body bleeds off heat at temperatures lower than 98 degrees (and still radiates heat away above that), its still fighting a losing battle against the heat your body generates beyond a certain point, (more if you're excersizing or otherwise burning energy). Those of us with high metabolisms reach that point faster than most. I'm FAR more comfortable between 50 and 70 degrees than 80-90

minor asside: given that you need 4000 calories per day to maintain body mass in artic climbs, why don't people go there to lose weight?

Oh, I don't know, maybe BECAUSE IT'S FRACKIN' FREEZING?

The secret to winning the battle against heat in warm climates is sandy beaches, ocean water, and ice cold margaritas. And tropical music. And more ice cold margaritas. And cabana boys waiting on your every whim. Followed by more ice cold margaritas. Then maybe a mojito or two...and a piña colada. Maybe some cabana girls, too. Oops, getting warmer again, but nothing a caipirinha cannot solve...

None of that sounds appealing at all.

Its all about the slightly intoxicated babes on the beach *drinking* the margaritas.

That's appealing to me ;)

Drunken samples are likely easier to get.
