Game one of Wednesday....Rangers @ Rays......5-1 Rangers.

Lee says,"Eat this Rays"

Lee was dominate, going 7 innings only allowing 1 run (HR- Zobrist in the 7th). Striking out 10, with 5 hits and 0 walks.

Got hairy in the 9th, as Feliz walked the first two, but gave up no runs.

Eek, thanks for the update, work is so busy, I haven't really paid attention as to when things were starting.

I think, despite Cliff Lee's performance, this series, and the fate of the 2010 Rangers moving forward, depends entirely on how well Josh Hamilton has recovered from broken ribs in just 22 days time.

The Halladay pitches a no-no against Cincy. Impressive start for the stinkin' Phils....

Halladay pitched a hell of a game.

The Phillies look terrifying.

Best pitcher I've seen since Roger Clemens. No surprise he, like Carpenter, Pettitte, and Schilling, attribute so much of their success to working with, and learning from, Clemens.

This disturbs me. I'm a bit of a Halladay fan. I'd hate to think he gained his talent from the same size syringe...

Off topic, but who thinks Felix Hernandez is going to get robbed of the AL Cy Young this year?

I don't know that it could be called a robbery, but no, I don't think he'll win it. 13 wins isn't nearly enough in any season, much less a season in which he has some stiff competition.

He's still the best AL Pitcher this year. His decision record is horrible, but not for his lack of skill or great play.

I think he wins it. From what I hear from sports reporters and the such, they see beyond the win total.

I'm kinda pissed that I missed listening to this on the radio. Had a nice long drive through SoCal to get home, turned on some ESPN station to hear what was up. The announcers said the score was 4-0, Phils, made one passing reference to the Reds not getting any hits, (really, I think they used fewer words than that), and I changed the channel.

At least I got to see Joe Torre retire (?) in person.

Wins are a pretty bad stat to judge pitchers by. Not a worthless stat, certainly, but bad. The Cy Young award is for the individual pitcher, and if you were to take an individual pitcher like Hernandez and move him from a Mariners quality team to one of the top teams and you'll almost certainly see a significant jump in wins. I suppose it's only so prolific a stat because it's an easy, simple(ish) stat, and one that when used in context when you know a team can be alright.

...though I am reminded of the Steve Carlton of 1972. 27 wins that year for him, which wasn't totally off the wall for that era... but the Phillies overall record that year? 59 wins.

Definitely an exception to the rule, though. :p I just love that stat!

In any case, looking forward to the Braves game tonight, even if it is at forever o'clock. The Giants scare me the most from a Phillies fan perspective. While I can't say it looks good for the Braves, I'd not find it amiss for the 'anything can happen' of postseason baseball to kick in during that series... or at least make it go 5 games!

I'm not that worried about the Giants.

The Braves actually handled the Giants this year. I expect low scoring games as the Braves pitching is still good and the Giants offense is weaker.

The Braves beat the Phillies in the last game of the season to make it to the playoffs, and they did it all on heart and all for the Skipper. These kids, because it's mostly a young team, really want to take it home for Bobby Cox. And I think that's going to give them a lot of leverage in the playoffs.

And, of course, Bobby Cox is a shoe-in for the Hall of Fame as soon as he's eligible.

I think Felix will win the Cy Young. I could see wins/losses being a tie breaker of sorts, all other things being equal, but there are so many better things to judge 'Best Pitcher' (not Most Valuable Pitcher) by.

Honestly though, I really don't care. There is so much east coast bias in sports media, that it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Price or Sabathia won it. It would just serve to confirm my disdain for sports media in general.

If he wins, great... if he doesn't, I'm really not all that worried about it. It's just a bunch of sports writers afterall.

Let's ask the hitters who faced them all year what they think?

...and that right there is what makes me afraid of the Giants.

Lincecum can only play every few games, however. We shall see what the next game holds.

But the fact that they barely beat the Phils backups and the Phils OWN them doesn't bode well for them.

I don't see anyone stopping the Phils!!!!!!!! Woohoo, World series #2 in 3 years :)

Clearly.

That's closer than the ball being over the goal line in the '05 superbowl ;)

That's a much closer view than what I saw last night on TV, nice shot. The second he went in to second (!), I called out, "Out!" But then he was called safe, and the commentators (on TNT) didn't make a big deal of it at all.

Infante's (unrecognized) error was the killer, though. How he didn't at least smother that ball is beyond me.

Lincecum's a ****' stoner. (which is actually pretty cool :D )
