#7 was used in Mr. Holland's Opus. He plays it in class after finding out his son is deaf.

I used to listen to quite a bit of classical, but have since fallen away from it.

I would have to refresh myself on his symphonies before voting.

Looks like I'm the first to take the 3rd, but it's a close call between the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th for me. Why the prediction for the 3rd, though? I don't recall hearing it in any pop-culture context, but I'm sure it's been used somewhere.

Guessing yours? I have no idea. I'll say the 2nd, but not for any articulable reason.

While I appreciate Beethoven's works, I listen to other composers more often. Of this list I would say #1, then #6 would be my personal favorites.

However, to add some of my favorites to the mix from different composers, excuse any crossing of musical periods.....

I'll clarify Khross's ire for the plebians.

Sam posted Pachelbel's Canon in D (the MOST overplayed peice of music in all history. Not saying it's bad, it's just EVERYWHERE), Chopin's Nocturne in E-flat major, and Mozart's Symphony 40 in G Minor. Nothing wrong with any of this music in, and of itself. But altogether you have a great pop-music mix CD for classical fans. Might as well have Britanny Spears, Backstreet Boys, and N'Sync.

Of course, the plurality of votes in the OP have gone to Beethoven's 9th/Ode to Joy, which could easily make the cut for that CD, so perhaps we shouldn't complain.
