The issue for me isn't (just) that he was ignorant when he was making the campaign promises, it is also that he is fully capable of fulfilling this one, but he won't because it'll cost him personally, politically - the rights of others be damned.

He wasn't ignorant at all. He is a smart person, he knew the lie, he knew it wouldn't be fulfilled, he knew it would help him get elected so he said it.

HE IS A POLITICIAN THAT IS WHAT THEY DO.

That is my opinion. You are doing everything you can to not hold him accountable for this.

I do think that is a fair criticism, and it is frustrating that we haven't gotten further along. That said, there have been a lot of bigger fish for him to fry IMHO. Political costs or no, it's all about setting priorities.

Dude, unless that fish is the reputation of Jimmy Carter's Presidency, Obama hasn't accomplished anything more than making an abject fool of himself and a complete mockery of his office.

What has he accomplished, Aizle?

Seriously ...

What has the man done as President?

All he has to do is tell people to shut it down... and it would be shut down. It would take at most a day of his time.

Really Aizle?

First week of office he completely goes against not having lobbyists in his administration.

DADT could have been handled the first two weeks as the political momentum of his election obliterates resistance. Hell he could have issued a standing order to the military and let Congress try to come after him for issuing orders contrary to Congress (it wouldn't have stuck).

Bradley is an order to the military - that is all it would take.

GB is a private talk with a general and an order, maybe an hour - maybe.

Thats how things GET DONE instead of get talked about doing. He has no idea how to do the former because hes only ever done the later.

Or you could answer the questions instead of being dismissive.

Riiiiight.

This is all stuff that has been hashed and rehashed here over the last 2 years. I see nothing to be gained by anyone by trying to get into line by line argument about how good or bad Obama has been as a president with the folks here.

Others see merit in the conversation. Why don't you?

Perhaps it's because he doesn't have a defensible position.

Yeah I wouldn't want to ice skate up that hill either. It's like arguing "But what about all the gooooood things Hitler did?". Hitler did some good things for Germany, but I think they will forever be overshadowed by "other things"

I honestly don't know if his position is defensible or not, because he won't explain his reasoning to me. He very well may be right as rain, all he needs to do is persuade me.

Since when is agreeing on a topic necessary to continue a conversation here?

If that were the case, Hellfire would be a pretty boring place.

Maybe I'm jaded, but all I see is others looking for an excuse to vent about how awful they think Obama is. I'm not really interested in enabling that behavior.

I think the idea that you are dismissing reasons as excuses is problematic. This is compounded by the fact that you refuse to engage them in discussing those reasons in order to counter them.

If I wanted to vent about how awful Obama is, I'd start a thread. I don't need an excuse. Using that as a reason to avoid a conversation is kind of silly around here.

as to the thread title.... 3 words... maybe four, sometimes considered 3 and a contraction:

"Obama doesn't care"
