Well, we are in the minority sex when it comes to sci-fi/fantasy nerds, Jasmy, so he's at least partially right. A girl geek is popular because we're still somewhat rare! Of course, most men don't like sci-fi either.

While the rest of the world doesn't know we are the future, geeks are still a minority among either sex. So the rest of his point doesn't logically follow.

I go to a lot of Cons. Believe me, compared to a couple of decades ago, the number of women who attend has really shot up. I think it depends on the crowd you hang around with.

I enjoy Firefly. But I have yet to finish the series. Maybe because I don't want to join the angry brigade.

I can't say everything Joss Whedon touches turns to gold like some fans believe, but I can say he has done some good stuff. Kirra, if you haven't seen it yet I would ogre-strongly recommend Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog (which is also on Netflix).

Yeah, you wouldn't want to get the serenity graphic novels on Kindle, it wouldn't do the art any sort of justice.
