The Hubble Space Telescope is a prime example of why we don't need to go to the moon for something like this. It's parked up in orbit above the Earth, where it gets no atmospheric interference, and it's fairly simple (in space-shuttle terms) to get to and do maintenance on, as opposed to being on the moon.

Actually, today's flight of the X-37B makes me wonder about the mission of the other one they have that just ended in December after 225 days. Heck, who's to say that that thing didn't go to the moon?! They're not telling us at all what it did up there for 7 months.

A moon landing takes a lot of planning because, despite the fact that it's much smaller than Earth, it still possesses a significant gravitational field. Once we land a shuttle on the moon, we have to be able to get it back off.

We haven't gone back due to the real life star gate. The government puts it resources to maintaining it and the marketing to make people think it is just a science fiction show. They just changed a few details instead of area 51 where it is really located they show it being in Cheyenne mountain.

How is that for conspiracy?

Yeah, I doubt they landed the pseudo-shuttle up there, but it's an intriguing idea. Seven months is a long time for that thing to be up there.
