The most important lesson in the history of american warfare:

Don't underestimate the power and resolve of armed citizenry fighting in and for their homelands.

Yes but both sides are in their homeland (referring to Libyan government and the rebels).

Sadly, it's been apparent that the rebels have been losing for some time now.

Vindicarre,

Just to be Devil's Advocate, do you think the rebels are fit to run a country?

I don't see why not.
I'm sure King George, and many of his subjects, thought the rebels in the colonies weren't fit...

As fit as anyone else who can dole out oil wealth to their fellow tribesmen, sure.

It has taken 200 years, but we are proving them right...

We're actually running about 50/50 on that one.

However, once there's a no-fly zone being enforced, or Qaddaffi runs out of ammunition or spare parts for his air power, I expect the balance to shift.

While I don't disagree with your ideas backing this post, it's probably relevant to consider just how long countries end up lasting as-is. The fact that Vindi's post mentions King George and his subjects, for example, says a lot on this very subject. :p

The French Revolution came decades after our own. Germany has been through all sorts of changes. Japan in 1850 vs Japan in 2000? 1900 China to 2010 China...

In a certain regard, we've lasted awhile already.

A chaotic environment does not help economic growth. Even if they form a "government" it will not be stable and investment risks in the area will be high.

Anyways, I don't really understand what the rebels hope to get out of this? Yeah being more "free" is good and all, but not when you're unemployed.

Also, it's amusing how the rebels want to be "saved" by the international community when the fact is they started this war.

I don't expect a no-fly zone to get out of the UN Security Council. It looks like by the time his air power needs major resupply, it'll all be over.

Maybe. Third world air forces are notorious for poor maintenance and I doubt he can fabricate many parts locally. Ammunition he might be in better shape on.

I seem to recall another group of rebels that were saved by the international community after starting a war....

Needless to say, I'm a bit surprised at the UN vote.

I think in a battle between the two in the OP... the safe bet is on Rao the Conqueror.

Libyan rebels, better armed and more of them.
