Privatizing Social Security defeats the point of Social Security. You might as well just get rid of it.

The debt rating agencies aren't impressed. We're still very likely to be downgraded, and rightly so.

Being downgraded is good for us. We'll never stop borrowing money and raising our debt ceiling until people stop loaning us money.

Pretty much the way I see it too.

You are missing the true impact of this.

The downgrade of US debt will mandate an absolute flight from US treasuries. Mutual Funds and Retirement Accounts which are made up of only AAA rated entities are going to be forced into a sell-off immediately, precipitating the crash of the bond market.

Not if they are still the most attractive investment. In other words, if they all suck, but the US Treasury just sucks less....

The only thing the US AAA rating does is support the status quo.
