Or to live in **** nowhere, where we can get to the field in 10 minutes? Sorry, downtown LA is nowhere near a cornfield, although there was one installed as an art project in a park not long ago. I really can't see raw corn being good for more than an hour off the stalk. Maybe you have some elite varieties, I dunno, but for us hoi-polloi, we'll have to do with what we can get.

OK, I'm thinking that this is the weirdest thing I've ever read ... but then I came across the brats part. And then I realized that you have some Dairyland roots, right, Vlad? All of a sudden, it clicked - this is like a Door County fish boil, right? What an interesting thing, may have to try this camping sometime.

Ya hey, 100% dairyland roots. It's kinda like a fish boil, sure, except closer to pressure cooking than just a boil.

It's not wierd, I'll tell ya that. It's pure awesome. You could probably get the similar results by tossing a couple brats in a pressure cooker with corn and potatoes and all that stuff for a half hour, but it wouldn't feed a couple dozen people then... ;)

I'm gonna start looking into this for my next camping trip.

Ya hey. Squirrelly Valley?!

(If you don't know the reference, don't worry, few do, I'm sure.)

No. If you're doing anything other than grilling it, you're doing it wrong.

Don't forget "bad". It also makes you bad.

...

Y'all are still doin' this all wrong. If your sweetcorn isn't sweet enough to eat raw, it ain't sweetcorn. Likewise, one can cook corn by burying it in the coals of a fire ...

You can roast it over an open fire ...

Well ...

Hell, all sorts of ways to cook corn that involve neither a grill nor boiling. So, yes, y'all are doin' it all wrong.

No nuance needed here. Prefer mine boiled and with butter, salt, pepper and Old Bay Seasoning.

Since discovering the awesome that is Old Bay, I can never have my corn without it.

Soooooo good.

No.

Being sweet enough to eat raw has nothing to do with if it's sweet corn. There is no reason to eat corn raw, whatsoever. That's a complete waste of corn. There is no such thing as corn sweet enough to be eaten raw because no one should ever do this.

You're doing it wrong.

As for cooking it over an open fire or in the coals, those are substantially the same as grilling it.

Plenty of reasons to eat corn raw, especially: it tastes good.

I'm perfectly happy eating my Olathe sweet corn raw, but I like it warm. So I rub it with bacon grease, pepper it, wrap in foil, and set on the back of the grill while the burgers are cooking.

Bacon grease and pepper, eh? Huh, might have to try that. And make some lemon squares ...

Article in today's LA Times on the mania over Fresno sweet corn. Sounds fun.

Edit: Hah, hadn't seen the picture online. Of course, it shows some guy standing in the field, apparently eating the corn raw. I didn't know Khross was at Fresno State! Go Bulldogs! :P
