As far as I know, the first ever drive-by shooting in my neighborhood happened about an hour ago. Across the street and two doors down, where the alleged drug dealers live. The dad died earlier this year, but he had major health issues and it was because of those. Now one of his daughters, one I watched grow from a rotten little girl to an unpleasant young woman lives there with her boyfriend, fiance or husband, I'm not quite sure, they have a child, though I've never met either the guy or the kid.
There were a series of 5-8 single shots, I wasn't counting, then it went to semi-auto, then it stopped. I didn't hear a car which surprised me. It amazed me how quickly people started rushing out in the street to see what was going on. I ducked behind another wall and deeper into the house. Then I went outside to look, most of the neighborhood was out there, then five police cars arrived. One ran by asking if anyone had seen anything, we all said no. Patrol cars are still out there, cops are in the house, they haven't carried anyone out yet, don't know if anyone is hurt or dead.
I'm feeling a little shaky, not too bad. Wish I could say I was surprised, but if anyone had asked where a drive by might happen in the neighborhood, I would have guessed that house.
Maybe they'll leave now, that would be a positive ending.
Really, this is a quiet little blue collar neighborhood and most of us don't make any more noise than mowing our lawns. I'd like it to stay that way, a boring neighborhood is far preferable.
