DE: I'm reading about it now (and have been for the past hour and a half) and it looks like a pretty intense application and training process. I'm impressed. A 4-6 hour long polygraph exam just to apply?? And it takes 6-9 months from the initial application to the offer letter, if you pass the background check and meet all the qualifications. I'm intrigued though...I wonder if I am emotionally mature enough (everything makes me angry and cry) and physically capable (I am thin but have zero endurance and just walking up a flight of stairs has my heart pounding out of my chest and gets me out of breath.)
Hmmmmm. Is this for me? I know my weaknesses are against me, but the pay and benefits sound great as does the idea of having a job that's in black and white...I'd know exactly what was expected of me, which is a plus because I'm the kind of person that gets lost in the gray areas. Looks like it'd build self-confidence too.
You have more than enough time to work out and get youself ready. The application process IS long, but in a way that's good because if something else comes up you'd rather do, you can change your mind. There's also the benefit that it gives you plenty of time to plan for it.
The polygraph isn't to apply; it's part of the application process, and is nothing to worry about. You do sometimes have to admit some embarrassing things but they generally are not nearly as big a deal as you think they are.
As for emotional maturity.. at your age, it's time you started developing that, if everything makes you angry and cry. That's not to say you shouldn't get angry and cry sometimes, but if it's all the time, I'd suggest that it's something you can do. Working out will help with that; it just takes self-discipline. The other thing to remember is, nothing is meant personally. It doesn't matter if you are an emotional person, what matters is whether you can control them and do what you need to be done.
It is very much a thing that most people can do, if they put their mind to it.
