We will be together fourteen years on the 24th this month

I find it rather amusing that, by most standards, my 1980 birth makes me a Gen Y individual. Because I sure as hell have more in common with Gen X stereotypes and cultural touchstones than Gen Y ones.

Gee....let me guess which generation you're a part of.....

Seriously, though. The categories are retarded. New people are born every day. I don't see what the point is in putting an imaginary line right in between the people who are 23.596 years old and younger and the people who are 23.597 years old and older (or whatever arbitrary date they happened to pick to put their imaginary line which is probably based on pop-culture, which I just ignore anyways). Also, what is the purpose of this. Woooo I'm in Gen Y. Woooo I'm in Gen X. Who cares. Big. F*cking. Deal.

That's because it's f*cking retarded.

I was born in 1984 and I feel the same way. Sometimes it's 50/50. Whatever. It's retarded.

How I read this rant

Clearly all timelines and categories are artifically constructed concepts. None is any more or less silly then any other.

The WWI generation said that about the folks growing up during the roaring 20s. They were wrong. Adversity makes your balls drop.

That's because "Gen X" only spans something like a seven to ten year block of time. Whatever the number as, it's an absurdly small segment compared to what has traditionally been used to define a "generation."

Well, it's generally considered to have started in '65 and ended, depending on who is doing the estimating, anywhere from '76-'82.

Is there a generation Z? If so, what will the next generation be named? Will they restart at the beginning of the alphabet or maybe go with ZA, then ZB and so forth....

They weren't too lazy to write more than one letter at a time. Or to think of a full word or phrase to describe themselves.

Er... Based on where that generation is.... They were right.

Comparing the two generations, the Greatest Generation saved the world and rebuilt the parts that would let us. I have a lot of respect for them. The Boomers had some pretty nifty achievements too, but no, TGG has us beat hands down. Too many of us Boomers are facing a sad and sorry retirement or lack of being able to. I find it sadly amusing how many of my friends were making big money for years and were really stupid with it and now have less than nothing.

I'm fine, so is my sister. Our two brothers, not so much.

The Greatest Generation had the 'advantage' of having lost a large number of its young men, which creates an economy in which there are more jobs than workers.
