I find it rather amusing that, by most standards, my 1980 birth makes me a Gen Y individual. Because I sure as hell have more in common with Gen X stereotypes and cultural touchstones than Gen Y ones.

Seriously, though. The categories are retarded. New people are born every day. I don't see what the point is in putting an imaginary line right in between the people who are 23.596 years old and younger and the people who are 23.597 years old and older (or whatever arbitrary date they happened to pick to put their imaginary line which is probably based on pop-culture, which I just ignore anyways). Also, what is the purpose of this. Woooo I'm in Gen Y. Woooo I'm in Gen X. Who cares. Big. F*cking. Deal.

Clearly all timelines and categories are artifically constructed concepts. None is any more or less silly then any other.

That's because "Gen X" only spans something like a seven to ten year block of time. Whatever the number as, it's an absurdly small segment compared to what has traditionally been used to define a "generation."
