Engineer kit has the RPG's and such, and there are also some ground spawn rockets. Generally speaking though Helicopters and Jets arent too big of an issue for me. Tanks on the other hand and whatever those anti-personnel vehicles are, can ruin your day fast.

I really don't like the Humvee's either Dash. In the older versions you could snipe a guy out of the turret, now they are inside the vehicle behind what appears to be bullet-proof glass.

It's just frustrating that if you're not an Engineer there's little you can do about them. As an Engi though it's fun to pick the tanks apart.

In BF3, there are SA-18 IGLA's, FIM-92 STINGER's, FGM-148 JAVELIN's, AA emplacements and mobile AA.

The mobile AA upgrades to have missiles once you unlock it.

Strictly speaking, the FGM-148 is not a SAM, but I'm glad they let you use actual SAMs instead of making you try to hose down an attack helicopter with an assault rifle.

Props for all the correct nomenclature too! I knew sooner or later someone else might indulge in come military geekery too! You're well on the way to a joyful hobby of nitpicking the tiniest technical details of thousands of awesome implements of destruction!

Yep, but the FGM-148 sure does a job on a hovering helicopter.

It will in real life too. The problem is that it's not designed to engage a moving helicopter, and it's range is very limited for an antiair weapon.

I'd also venture to guess that attack helicopters in Battlefield 3 don't tend to fight the same way as real attack helicopters.

I don't know about the helicopters, but the pilots sure don't. ;)

Can the Javelin hit aircraft? I assume it has to be marked with the SOFLAM first?

No, they don't. Then again, real attack helicopters can engage as far away as 8,000 meters with rockets and missiles like Hellfire reach comparable, sometimes longer, distances. If my past video game experience is anything to go by, ranges in the game are.. significantly shorter, to say the least.

Yes, but the thing is that in real life a missile just locks on to a signature; there are no "air targets" or "ground targets" as video games separate them. A helicopter can be hit by Javelin because when it behaves similarly to a ground vehicle; i.e. flies below 60 meters in altitude, and fairly slowly. Of course, attack helicopters pop up and down from behind cover and rarely are flying at their maximum speed while actually fighting to begin with, and it isn't like helicopters are that fast to begin with.

As for fixed wing aircraft - forget it.

Last night I had a dream in which I was explaining the physics behind a shaped charge in an anti-tank weapon... I blame this thread.

Surprisingly it is, although I wouldn't say 'much better' since it is pretty rough around the edges. CoD is a great game.

I liked CoD Black ops Mp better then MW3 Mp. I would like BF3 MP better but since I am stuck with randoms I get annoyed that they don't seem to understand team objectives.

I haven't tried MW3 yet but I really liked CoD Black Ops.

MW3 MP is nothing like BO MP. I didn't get into CoD until BO but speaking to my brother he states MW3 is a throwback to MW2.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is nearly as good as a simple 'run around and shoot people' game can get with current hardware. It's also one of the rare games that is excellent on both the PC and consoles.

Note 1: I haven't personally played it on the console.
Note 2: Call of Duty: Black Ops doesn't push the latest hardware to the limits, but this only a very slight negative in my opinion

Should be a patch soon. By the way, I've been flying planes the last few days and absolutely love it. There is nothing more satisfying than shooting into the top of another plane as it fatally attempts an evasive maneuver across your screen.

Big patch! I'm really glad they nerfed AA missiles. They were way overpowered.

-- A detailed look at Squad refinements

A detailed look at Squad refinements

Today's PC client patch features numerous tweaks to Squad functionality and is part of our ongoing efforts to make it easier to play with friends and Platoon mates. These changes will also be implemented for consoles when we release the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 updates shortly. Stay tuned for the exact date of the console updates.

First, we need to look at how joining with Squads and Platoons affects the balance of teams. Initially, servers are commanded to equal out each side, so joining with friends can impact that balance while joining with Platoons further hinders this. As a result we have made some adjustments to the in-game Squad management screen.

For PC, you are now able to highlight the various Squads and select which one you wish to join by selecting a Squad and then clicking the Join Squad button. Please note that the Squad Privacy option still allows 2 man Squads which, during 64 player sessions, can lead to players with no squad position –- the number of people with no Squads will be shown at the bottom of the Squad selection list.

After the patch is applied to consoles (in the near future) you will be able to join Squads by cycling through the list and selecting which Squad you wish to join.
