When you dual wield hand crossbows, you get a 15% bonus to attack speed and each shot you do alternates between your hands(each doing full damage). Also, the Archery passive skill will give you different bonuses depending on your weapon. Normal bows give you 15% more damage, hand crossbows increase your critical strike chance by 10% and I think two handed crossbows increase your critical damage by some%, but I'm not 100% sure on the two handed crossbow bonus.

Basically, it comes down to preference. While it's true that one handed crossbows can have better stats in general, it all comes down to luck. Whatever has the best combination of stats and damage is the one you should go with. Just remember that to equal the DPS of a two handed bow, you need to have two one handed crossbows with the same dps as each other(because of the alternating shots).

Thanks for that. I'm playing a demon-hunter and I was wondering what the best route to killer dps is.

I'm actually really starting to love the itemization and customization available in this game. It just seems to get deeper and more options open the further you go.

And I love how it seems each Act I find myself struggling at first until I work out the areas to upgrade and tweak until I'm managing it, and then destroying everything.

And now I'm in Act 3 nightmare with my Damage showing over 1800, and at nearly 9000 hp hehe.

Sooo... Anyone happen to have a guest pass lying around?

Itching to give this a try, but I want to see if/how it will run on my system(s) first.

Not a big deal if no one does, from what I can tell the demo is downloadable after 30 days from release.

I caved and bought the game when I found out it worked in OSX. Level 12 atm I think, nearing the end of act 1. Demon hunter.

A few days ago, I started my Nightmare game and I got to where you have to get the crown. You know how there are three crypts you can go into at the cemetery there, right? Each called "Defiled Crypt." Well, one of them was called "Development Hell" and had a bunch of zombies with names of the Diablo 3 dev team. There was also a boss and I got a feat of strength for killing him. Apparently, it's a pretty rare event.

So I didn't think my PC would play it well according to the specs, but it performs quite well.

It also plays well on my MBA, for which I'm quite pleased.

My MBP runs the game very well at 1440x900 with everything on high. However, in one of the spider lairs I did need to turn shadows down to medium. After that, smooth as butter.

Dammit, dammit, dammit. The PC I bought last fall has an unsupported vid card. Hoping we can get another graphics card that will run it. Soooo wanted to kill things today. (/rude anti-theft cases that won't let you see the specs on the box until they're unlocked at the counter. I should have looked up the specs before I went shopping.)

Tigerdirect has a 17" laptop for $500 that plays the game rather well at 1600x900; the timing that I saw it advertised was just perfect so I picked it up and it arrived on Monday the 14th.

It's what I'm going to use to play at work etc hehe.

You bought it just last fall and the card is unsupported already?

I'm in Act III now, ~13 hours played and level 27, I think. I bought two rare crossbows off the AH for rather cheap and I've just been laughing as I mow down hordes of enemies with scatter shot and the lightning orb elemental arrow. Enchantress partner ftw.

I found the boss of Act II a little difficult because every time I tried to move I would keep clicking on him and attacking instead. Got me killed more than a few times with that mass explosion ability.

I really like the vault ability for just that reason, combined with the knockback upgrade.

The lightning orb shot is just absurd. I just sling it out randomly in an arc and usually get not only a Massacre but frequently a Destruction bonus as well from inanimate objects they hit.

Spoiler:
I'm expecting a nerf to that ability sooner or later. I'm almost tempted to use something else just because it seems too easy.

Considering he will 1 shot you on Nightmare+, vault is rather useful. Also, I prefer multishot for aoe. Elemental Arrow is fine, but the area of effect is often too narrow to clear out rooms quickly. I use Impale with Chemical Burn for act bosses or Impact for normal. The stun is rather important on higher difficulties.

My setup:

I change things around for certain bosses, of course(Act 2 gets Vault with acrobatics instead of Smoke screen and spike trap with long fuse instead of caltrops since he doesn't move in phase 2, for example)

Yea, Impale is a really good boss killer, especially with Chemical burn. I like to use Overpenetration for normal mobs, too. I generally use Multishot and Elemental Arrow (Frost) for mobs of enemies. Multi is a great room clearer. And Frost Arrow is surprisingly good single target dmg, although not quite as good as Impale.

I'm level 35 now and I've been running with this build lately. Seems to work pretty well, but I just got to Nightmare, Act I, so we'll see how it does there. I find with the Vengeance passive, and the Bat Companion, I can spam Multishot and/or Frost arrow for quite some time before having to recharge. Not really sure if I'm gonna keep the Bat, though. The extra Hatred recharge is very nice, but I just feel like I need something more useful in that slot.

I also swap out my passives a good bit, too. I alternate between the 3 in the build I posted, and Cull the Weak & Archery.

I've also played a Monk to level 22, and a barb and wiz both to level 10 or so. And I have to say that the Demon Hunter is by far my favorite class. The others are fun and interesting, but the DH just seems so much more fun to me.

That’s cause you guys are just secret rangers inside =P

I have a 31 Wiz and must say, almost every boss I have to change my tactic. I’m currently umming and arhing between battle wiz or ranged wiz and it’s been tremendous fun.

The added depth between the builds for soloing and grouping certainly puts a lot more thought than just mindless clicking.

So I'm in act 2 with my monk, and hav a barbarian and demon hunter part way through act 1.

It really seems like I've got a lot more cash than I really have a decent use for. Does that change?

Really liking the Artisan armor, aside from the high level reqs. A suit of that seems more than enough to carry me, at least for now. Very nice weapons, too.

I know I said I may not have been interested, but reading about it here has somehow piqued my interest.

If you had any more guest passes, may I be so bold as to request one? Thanks.

I finished normal with my Barb, and thought I'd give the Demon Hunter a try. I had no idea that all your characters share the same money, stash and artisans. That's quite nice.

Foamy, I'll PM you one of my guest passes.
