Which is why I won't buy this at full price. Not getting caught in the vortex of Error 37's and account hacking is a pleasant bonus surprise.

I gotta admit, Numbuk might have been right here. D3's "real game" seems to start with Inferno. Normal mode has been faceroll-easy for my first 15 hours. Only boss that gave me any trouble was Belial but that's mainly because I was stubborn and didn't want to use Vault.

Like I said, Diablo's story is really only secondary to the core game. It's just a big loot-hunt and survival skills test. It's really more for the types of folks who get a thrill about finding a really, really, awesome piece of equipment and never knowing where it's going to be coming from. Layered on top of that, is working toward a build that can survive the worst punishment the hardest difficulty levels have to offer (which then in turn allows even more awesome loot to be found).

It's not for everyone. But it sure is fun for those with that kind of loot "itch." :-D

Also, and this is important for everyone playing this game, Battle.net is running rampant with accounts being hacked. Remember the problem WoW had? Well, this is the same thing but cranked up to 11. Less users spread out over multiple servers, one auction house to rule them all, and soon to be real-money AH coming soon, it's nothing but a big shiny tempting candy for the "hackers."

I strongly recommend getting your accounts attached to an authenticator if you have not done so already. Blizzard offers them for free for anyone with a smartphone (even fairly old ones). And you can also get a physical one for 6 bucks, which is less than what most people pay for lunch.

Don't fall into the trap of "Well, I am sure there are no keyloggers on my machine." Trust me, they have far more tricks to get your info than just keylogging.

The hacking bypasses all security, including authenticators. You can only get "hacked" by joining public games, something about the account session ID, so I'd say avoid them for now and the foreseeable future until Blizzard actually acknowledges it.

Edit - and that chest in Alcarnus got hot fixed last night. Oh well, back to elemental arrow spamming my way to victory.

To be quite frank, I'm not sure how much Blizzard cares about security anymore...

That's more of an indicator that they never did care.

Wow, that's an epic security fail.

Hmmm...so that's what that email from Blizzard is about. Time to change passwords again!

Wow, that seriously is some grade-school level security. No **** wonder so many people get hacked and Blizz pushes authenticators so hard.

No, there are confirmed folks who've never touched a public game with the same issues.

The "anymore" in my post was meant to indicate that I previously had assumed a higher level of respect for security at Blizzard, not that I currently believe their disdain for it is a recent development.

It could be reworded "I'm not sure anymore how much Blizzard cares about security..." if you find that easier to parse.

Wow, the blue poster comes across as kinda a douche in that thread.

No, actually, I understand where he's coming from.

Someone reports a "bug" - passwords are not case sensitive.
QA tester confirms "This is not a bug. You'll find none of our bnet passwords were ever case sensitive."

Everyone jumps on him that this is stupid. Thing is, he's a QA tester. It is not his job to code the app, or to provide development feedback. He's there to find and report bugs. This is not a bug. He probably even agrees with the others that this is not the most secure of account systems. None of that is his problem or remotely related to his job or the purpose of his forum.

Blizzard's information security is incompetent. That particular blue poster is not part of information security, he is just stating a fact.

lol

EDIT:

Also, since Smoke Screen was nerfed(it's down to 1 second and 1.5 seconds with lingering fog with a 3 second cooldown), I found this new build on the forums that gave me a laugh.

Quote:
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#UjYXdV!gUc!.ZaaYc

NEW STRATEGY IS

PLACE MARKED FOR DEATH ON MOBS
RUN IN
DROP CALTROP
DIE
GRENADE BOOM
RESPAWN
USE VAULT AND SMOKE SCREEN TO GET BACK FASTER (RESULTING IN HIGHER GRENADIER UPTIME AS YOU SPEND LESS TIME RUNNING FROM CHECKPOINT, BIGGEST DPS INCREASE FOR THE BUILD RIGHT HERE)
REPEAT

Sad thing is, this might actually be viable. Not for end of act bosses, but those are a lot easier than the 7 ability champion packs you come across in Inferno.

You bought it just last fall and the card is unsupported already?

The model came out in 2010, I think, from what I've now found online. It's a home/office computer, and wasn't bought as a gaming machine. The CPU is fine - it's just the lack of HD.

I found a vid card that others have had luck with (it's a slim case, so I have to go with a single-slot, low profile card that will run on a 220W power supply). There are several cards that will work, but the power supply is the limiting factor - I can't find anything higher than 250W. I've seen folks posting on Diablo 3 boards that are using this card with success. I'm just waiting for it to arrive now.

Plan B had been building a new PC. I could salvage the hard drive, power supply, and case from my old gaming machine, and get all the rest new (CPU, motherboard, GPU, and memory, maybe an OS upgrade). Add a KVM (?) switch kit so I could use the monitor, etc with both computers, and I'm in business. I spec'd out what I would want as a decent, but not top of the line, machine - if I start playing a lot to make it worth the investment, I can still go that route.

Do you mean the pop up box Diablo gives saying that, or does it truly not work? I only ask because I have an Alienware m11x and I get the same thing, however it's totally compatible and plays the game fine, the warning is simply because laptop manufacturers suck at updating video drivers so it's more of a video driver is out of date issue.

Yes, Diablo says that. It won't start the game at all. Hmm... (It's not a laptop - it's a desktop PC with integrated graphics.) Will have to check that.

Serienya#1392, btw.

So yeah, totally rescinding my previous statement that this game did not interest me one bit.

Been playing the Guest Pass version Drexel was kind enough to share with me and I am loving this game.

Have so little time to sit and play with the demands of a newborn, but in the little time I have come across I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with this game.

Can't wait to pick this up in time, but for now, prolly going to max out each class within the confines of the guest pass version to see which one I like using the most. Wizard is my first choice so far and I am totally digging her.

Played with Drexel and Diamondeye earlier today and it went pretty well, got some good upgrades between us, only downsides were a few newb "standing in the fire" deaths for us once or twice :) Normal was a joke but I'm definitely enjoying some company now in Nightmare.

Doing public stuff on Nightmare now. Didn't think it would be that fun nor that tough at times. Loving it.

I'm such a pack rat though. I don't want to get rid of any of my yellow stuff but I know I won't use the majority of it. I've picked up one orange piece but have no desire to use it.

Use the AH to get rid of it(though, I just break most of it down at the blacksmith unless it's really good, then I'll stick in on the AH).

That's one of the problems. I have no idea what's really good and what's considered run of the mill. I put 10 on the AH a few days ago an sold three and got the others back. Two sold for sell price and one actually had a number of bids.

I do seem to get a lot of requests for gems in public games.

Well, what I do is look at the prices for items in the level range the item is in and price accordingly. Sometimes I just put stuff up for a couple of thousand since that's a lot more than I would get for vendoring it. Other times, I'll just break it down at the blacksmith...but if an item has 5 or 6 properties on it(and they aren't worthless like +exp on monster kills) I generally save them for the AH
