Yeah. It's more the sprints I'm talking about though, where even the smallest advantage can matter.

Not as outlandish as you may think:

The abstract doesn't mention body hair, and I don't have access to read the full article, but it's not inconceivable to me that shaving could have at least some impact, particularly when sprint times are now being measured in thousandths of a second (though typically only reported/recorded in hundredths). Certainly those female sprinters should be able to improve their times with a quick snip of the pony tails!

Sorry, I was speaking specifically about body hair wind resistance being pretty silly at sprint speeds.

As far as snipping pony tails, surely if it came down to that, skullcaps would be an option ala speed skating?

I would consider it more likely that leg hair would increase performance than detract and would think that all of the gains that study found was related to clothing and hair on the head.

But i'm not a runner so who knows. As a cyclist, its all about the road rash.

Its MORE likely to matter at sprint speeds but less likely to be measurable. (wind resistance increases with speed, so you'll see a higher percentage increase)

Um, yes. I meant vs. cycling speeds.

No, you could shave 0.1 seconds off your time. From 5.8 sec to 5.7 sec.

Yes, I think you read correctly, -5.7 seconds over the course of a marathon. The 0.1 was in the 100m dash, Aizle.

Of course, Aizle may be using sarcasm due to the ludicrousness of the idea that one could take 5.7 seconds to run a marathon...
