Yeah, that's immediately apparent with the sky-high user satisfaction.
....And their almost non-existent user base and falling smartphone market share from that near non-existent number.

I guess so, if you absolutely hate easily accessible... well... everything.
You call it easy access, I call it cluttered and messy, I don't want all my programs permanently sitting there all over my desktop for the same reason I don't want all my dishes sitting all over my kitchen counter, I want them nicely sorted into their cabinets out of sight except when I want to use them. And it's even worse with all those stupid colored icons and that all non-Microsoft programs just have big colored blocks instead of icons representing the program they are for.

On one hand I'm a bit surprised because you have UMPC's that you love to talk about as well as a tablet in your car. On the other, I'm not surprised at all because I'm pretty sure you have a soul pact with Windows XP and probably wish we all still had to use it.
UMPC /= tablet, it's a windows computer which I use with a keyboard and mouse. Yes, I did have a tablet in my old car, mainly because in terms of interface for playing music and GPS android is simply superior to any purpose built aftermarket car headunit, though currently since I got a new car the tablet has been collecting dust and hasn't been turned on in over a month. Nope, I haven't used XP in ages, all four of my computers including the UMPC are running windows 7, I had no issues with upgrading to that. Windows 7 is a computer interface just with added features and graphically enhanced, they didn't fundamentally change the whole way the OS works to match what is ideal on another form factor computing device like Metro is. Metro is a tablet OS and has no place being the default option for a standard (non-touchscreen) computer.
Now if they did the intelligent thing akin to what what Google did with Android ice cream sandwich where the OS has the interface for two different form factor devices (smartphone & tablet) and the appropriate interface is defaulted for the device that it's installed on then I wouldn't have any issues with Windows 8, but a tablet interface doesn't belong on a desktop computer.
