They aren't the same.

To be fair to Farsky, if that's the only visible difference between the candidates, then good or not, it's the only way to make your decision.

I'm saying that there are two spheres to political parties: their economic opinions and their social opinions. I find both candidates' economic opinions untrustworthy and untenable. So judging them by those guidelines, I find them to be a wash. Which leaves me with judging them by their social views. I find the Republicans' to be completely vile, and the Democrats' to be far more palatable.

So it's better for Steve and Bob to be able to get married than for either of them to have a job to support each other?

Ideally, I'd like for both to happen. But the Republicans won't pull their heads out of their asses (which, you have to admit...is kinda gay) on social issues. And Republicans have shown no ability to do anything whatsoever that would actually fix the economy. So since neither are going to get Steve and Bob back to work, at least let 'em be married while they're in poverty.

To be fair to Farsky, if that's the only thing he can see then I don't think he is looking hard enough. But...I guess it really doesn't matter. A huge chunk of the population is basing their vote on skin color, that's about as pathetic as basing your vote on who has sex with who I guess.

Nitefox is the one who suddenly narrowed the discussion to a gay marriage strawman-on-man. It's readily apparent that while neither is perfect, progressives are far more progressive on social issues than conservatives (because...duh). You pays your money and you takes your chances.

I brought up one main social issue that is talked about on these boards, sue me for cutting to the chase.

Progressive is not necessarily progress, nor good. (Nor am I talking about gay marriage)

I'm glad you agree that this is the starting point of the right's analysis of racial issues (though I would note that 20 years ago - i.e. 1992 - conservatives were saying that systemic racism had already been dead and gone for about 20 years at that point). That aside, on what basis do you call it an "observation" rather than an assumption when the vast bulk of the studies and surveys on the subject point in the other direction?

My guess would be Comedy Central.

So long as government systems are set up to reward people who claim institutional racism still exists - there will always be a large contingent of professionals and experts whose income depends on those rewards who will always claim it exists.

The only way to kill racism is to not have laws that contain any references to race.

No. Its better for Steve and Bob to get married than not.

Under either pres, they won't have jobs. So erring on the side of increased social freedoms (whether I partake of them or not) is the right thing to do.

If Obama had any interest in making it legal for gays to marry why didn't he do it already?

Its not just that single issue.

I believe that Romney will be worse overall for social policies and equally as bad as Obama for economic issues.

I'm still waiting to hear Nitefox's answer to my question.

Also, no where in that video clip does Obama actually mention race. He only compares the government's responses between 3 major disasters in recent memory.

Because congress won't pass it. The president doesn't have the power you seem to think he does.

However, what Obama has done is not pursue an agenda *against* gay marriage. Its a subtle but important difference.

That was directed at me? Did I make a statement that I found something objectionable? All I did was say this can't be good for him.

Put down the Obama pom-poms for a second and look at this video, what he had to say, who he was talking about, the way he went about it...and tell me with a straight face that you don't think it's that big a deal.

Biden had to evolve for him. All these folks worshiping at The One's feet are fooling themselves if they thinks Obama would have come out with that on his own.

So if POTUS can't make it legal and cannot prevent States from making it legal so what relevance this have to anything?

I am voting for Gary Johnson because he is not anti-Cleveland Browns.
