Ditto. Never finished SC2. Just didn't grab hold of me.

Didn't get into multiplayer much for reasons unrelated to SC2, but I loved the single player to death. I found most every element of it to be pretty top notch.

That said, there are probably millions of players out there who think Starcraft/Warcraft RTS games only truly are the multiplayer, so if they didn't end up playing multi it would have failed in their eyes... :p

Looking forward to March 12th-ish!

I played a 4v4 last night, first in 2 months or so. No major changes that I saw.

Evidently, you can get into the beta now if you sign up for purchase of the game when it releases. To my best understanding, they'll be adding people weekly from new subscribers.

I've watched some professional replays and they do seem to be doing a good job of balance so far. Widow mines have had direct damage reduced and now don't attack cloaked units without a spotter (before they were murdering protoss because it was so hard to get an observer close enough to see them without getting it killed), Tempests don't do additional damage against Massive ground targets anymore (they were rendering Thors and Ultralisks more or less irrelevant) and Fungal Growth has been nerfed somewhat. Reapers are improved, but lost the building bombs and are not any easier to produce. The Hellbats make a nice way of getting the Firebat back into the game while still leaving the Hellion in. The Oracle is a very interesting new protoss harrassment/support unit. The swarmhost seems a bit weak so far, that one may need some work. The Viper is something entirely new; especially their "grab" ability (dunno what it's called) for Zerg. Medivacs have new upgrades, although you need the physics lab to get all of them.

Overall, the game definitely looks like they're trying to make maneuver and positioning even more important, improve air (battlecruisers and carriers are now more viable due to new air units and improvements to existing ones to escort them), and revive units that were seeing little or no use.

There's new maps as well, and they've gotten away from the symmetrical aspects of them, at least somewhat. For example, there's at least one new 1v1 map where the spawns are in the bottoms corners, and a long attack path that arcs up towards the center of the map, then back down, which is kind of different.

For some reason, I decided to play SC2 tonight. Prior to tonight, I had not played in almost a year. I had no idea that the expansion was so close to being released. I suppose you tend to forget about Blizzard expansions frequently, as they take an eternity to release to the public. I'm kind of excited by this release.

Nice to see it priced as an expansion, rather than a standalone game.

Installing now. I wish I knew how to force it to install off the DVD rather than download the entire **** thing.

I'm afraid to start the campaign until I get everything downloaded for fear of losing out on some graphics or something.

As for multiplayer, I qualified for platnium 3v3; second time I;ve qualified that high. Both time I have noticed a problem in that league: The players are very good at executing a particular strategy, but if anything goes wrong they quit far easier than bronze or silver players. It seems like they understand what to do very well, as long as everything is going well. When they don't, they quit really early. Marine drop in your base? Just Quit! don't even bother to wait for the armies coming from your 2 allies!

That's the same problem that plagues the mid upper ELO (now tiers) in LoL. Players 1500-1800 (~= Gold 2 and 1 through Platinum and Diamond 5 and 4) tend to only be able to play one position thoroughly, oftentimes with limited champions and are horrible at playing from behind. They just stop trying.

Easy fix for that. They can quit out and forfeit, but if they quit, the game stays active until the other player "wins" or quits himself.

Gah ahn nah Blizz, implement that. :)

I will say this, they did manage to make Kerrigan a very interesting character. I just wish the Warcraft development team would get a bit of their story leanings from the Starcraft team.
