I am loving this game.

Just made it through the Alien Base Assault by the skin of my teeth. I had to revert to an earlier save a few times to make up for some stupidity on my part.

My guys seem to be holding their own, but they don't seem to...shine. I guess it's my fault as early on in my first playing, I was all over the place with research as I was learning the game mechanics. My interceptors don't pack a punch and I am lacking adequate satellite coverage as the money isn't there to acquire the uplinks. I think I spent too much on equipment that is just sitting unused and didn't get the $$$ flowing first. Just a good reason to get this playthrough done so I can start all over and do it again.

I haven't noticed, but does an injured soldier's equipment go back into the armory stock while they are healing or do they remain equipped with it?

So much fun.

So, to catch people up on my experience with XCOM... I was playing with the DLC active, and came across a particular DLC-specific mission where I had to disarm bombs on a train.

I was so, so woefully prepared for this mission as far as research went, and coupled with it popping up when a couple of my key guys were recouperating from injuries, it was frustratingly unwinnable. Taking it as a sign of things to come in the campaign, I shelved it and never could quite motivate myself to take on the Sisyphean task of picking that campaign up again. So I never finished XCOM, despite loving it to death.

But now XCOM 2 is out. And I've fallen in love all over again. My rock star Ranger (analogous to the Assault class) just recovered from grave injuries. I can't wait to get back to playing more tonight.

I really love the story that underpins XCOM 2. It really offers a new take and tone for the franchise that can shock, horrify, and surprise me all over again as I see the kinds of monstrosities lurking beneath the surface of the collaborator government and their not-so-benevolent benefactors. Coupled with a seriously stepped up strategic map game and fun, compelling mission types...

I love that there's a stat-tracking website that aggregates all of the kills, promotions, windows jumped through, and more across all the games played. 4.5 million dead XCOM soldiers in ten days!

I'll be at my PC.

I just picked up XCOM2 for the Xbone. Only played a couple of hours so far. I'm sure I have a lot of learning to do.

XCOM 1 was WAY too hard.

The original game was hard, but you could field like 15 dudes. So, one or two die, and its nbd. The new one? 5(6)? That's 20% of my squad!

Only way I beat it was to cheat my *** off. ;)
