So, to catch people up on my experience with XCOM... I was playing with the DLC active, and came across a particular DLC-specific mission where I had to disarm bombs on a train.
I was so, so woefully prepared for this mission as far as research went, and coupled with it popping up when a couple of my key guys were recouperating from injuries, it was frustratingly unwinnable. Taking it as a sign of things to come in the campaign, I shelved it and never could quite motivate myself to take on the Sisyphean task of picking that campaign up again. So I never finished XCOM, despite loving it to death.
But now XCOM 2 is out. And I've fallen in love all over again. My rock star Ranger (analogous to the Assault class) just recovered from grave injuries. I can't wait to get back to playing more tonight.
I really love the story that underpins XCOM 2. It really offers a new take and tone for the franchise that can shock, horrify, and surprise me all over again as I see the kinds of monstrosities lurking beneath the surface of the collaborator government and their not-so-benevolent benefactors. Coupled with a seriously stepped up strategic map game and fun, compelling mission types...
I love that there's a
stat-tracking website that aggregates all of the kills, promotions, windows jumped through, and more across all the games played. 4.5 million dead XCOM soldiers in ten days!
I'll be at my PC.
