Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 is the next big feature release. New flight model updates, balance pass, multicrew ships, first bits of fps combat, and the "mini-PU", which is essentially the vertical slice they're working on to get started on testing the systems that will tie a bunch of stuff together.
2.0's mini-PU will feature the first seamless large map implementation, where you start on a space station and can launch directly from there, engage cruise (or not) to travel long distances to other areas, pick up missions, EVA, encounter other players and NPCs in flight organically, and so on. It's making steps away from game mode style multiplayer servers towards the open ended multiplayer setup.
That's good. I've mostly avoided playing any after my first few flights because I was afraid I'd get tried of the game before the good stuff really came out.
