The nerf sucks. It was consistent, however. Somehow all the rest of us got AOE nerfed into oblivion, but rogues didn't. It was painfully obvious in a fight like Onyxia...where fan of knives+poison vs. whelps caused rogue DPS to jump up to about 20k for every rogue in the raid.

I'm not sure why Blizzard decided to nerf AOEs. Perhaps it was warranted, perhaps it wasn't, but what happened to rogues is exactly what happened to hunters, mages, warlocks, etc, but a couple weeks earlier. We didn't like it much then, either.

We pretty much do just 10 mans, because we're a small guild. Our general raid nights play out as follows -

Sunday - ICC until we hit the wall, then do something easy to make ourselves feel better. Often Ony, and then we stomp on ToC.

Monday - Throw ourselves at ICC until we get it right, or are driven to drink.

I'm not sure it was unwarranted. The top 100 DPS records for Festergut on World of Logs was......100 Mutilate Rogues. Some of them were over 13k DPS.

I didn't say it was unwarranted. Most rogues trade tott. I know we do. In 25's we have 2-3 rogues. in 10's, usually only one.

They're really really quick to nerf the **** outa rogues when they're high on the charts. This is nerf #2 for us in 5 weeks.

Yup... its not like we have any other abilities we bring to a raid other than single target DPS... when was the last time you had to have an uber rogue buff? ;)

They kick Ret in the balls in a fairly knee jerk sort of fashion, too. Look at our Q&A sometime. It's almost a funny little fantasy GC had.

Yea, they do tend to go in waves, but at least other classes can DO something else (hunters can give aspects/traps, mages give food/portals/AB, locks give... lock stuff.. and thats just the 'pure' dps, not counting hybrids) while rogues can um... uhh.. when was the last time you actually sapped something? ;)

Nerfing my Bryntroll =/ Bummer. Ret DPS goes to hell when we have to move around, so we will see how the new bosses are on 25 man on Monday.

10 man Fester and Rot were downed fairly easily for us, 25 man I missed the try on Friday but I heard it wasnt pretty.

Festergut is a different beast on 10 man. I guess this is to be expected, given that he's little more than pure gear check. We did him with 3 healers and still killed him before his 2nd big AE. Rotface seems to not have much surprises though as far as 10 vs 25. One of our 10 man teams killed him pretty easily once the OT got the hang of kiting. Our other one got him to just over 300k health left on our best attempt, but we were 3 healing it which may or may not have been the best plan since that left us with only 2 ranged, both of which are extremely low dps people. Pretty sure having good ranged helps for the last 20% or so since there are likely gonna be at least two ooze explosions which really suck for melee.

This, unfortunately, doesn't spell good news for our 25 man team either. :P Though depending on who we have online on Tuesday, it may not matter much as we won't have a chance to beat Festergut anyway.

Oh, also Rotface really sucks when you have to have a Warrior kite oozes. :p

Faced off with Festergut and Rotface tonight after clearing the opening wing with one wipe. Fester is kicking the snot out of our tanks, but I think we will down Rotface pretty easily after we get the tactics down. On our second attempt we got him to 60% before we lost focus. Festergut we can do, but he was just laying waste to our tanks. That might be an issue.

Killed Rotface on 25 man last night, took NINE tries! But we got him =)

Frankly he's pretty straightforward. I think it's a matter of people seeing it enough to "get it" then it's on farm. There are still the odd situations where you have to think more than "hit boss, run little slimes to big slimes" etc, but overall I hope we have him down fairly well after last night.

I look forward to 25 man Fester now, but that will have to wait til at least Friday.

We finally downed Festergut last night after attempts tues and weds nights. Closest before last night was about 8%. Last night we got him to 700k twice, and finally pushed through with the extra dps to down him about 10 secs before the enrage.

We have problems putting out the dps required and also keeping tanks up. Our tank/healing team always has problems with organised use of cooldowns. They seem to think tank/heal hardar is the answer. Sometimes, depending on gear level, you gotta make use of those cooldowns to make it through the predictable rough spots.

Then we finally moved on to Rottface, but didn't have time to get more than 3-4 attempts in. He's definately doable though, just need a bit more practise.

Festergut isn't overly difficult if you know how to handle the tank damage. We have 3 regular priests: 1 Holy Main (Disc Off), 1 Disc Main (Holy Off), 1 Shadow Main (Holy Off). We had both healers go Discipline and the Shadow go Holy, since Earth and Moon covers Misery. During the lead up to the Pungent Blight, when tank damage is ridiculous, we chain together 2 Pain Suppressions on the tanking holding Festergut. When coupled with the tanks' built in survivability tools, it worked quite well.

Curses! Much better attendance this week, but still couldn't get Festergut. 2% wipes make me very sad when no one dies. Especially when we're risking deaths by putting healers at range so some dps can stand in melee for less moving. :(

We tried to defy math and kept trying him even after a perfect attempt came up literally 10 seconds short. I found that a bit amusing! But I figure more practice never hurts, even if he's an easy boss, so didn't mind doing it I suppose. Certainly wasn't going to make any headway on Rotface in 30 minutes time.

WTB better dps. :( myself probably included, as I was offspec dps to help out. For those keeping track, incidentally, we were running 125k raid dps during Festergut attempts, which is not only 25% more than you need for ToC 25 hard mode, but this 125k is achieved despite all the stuns and occasional running to/from spores. Kinda crazy!

That's frustrating when you're that close and can't eek out that last bit. I think you need about 137k dps for Festergut? So you're about 10% off.

Our first night we started off about 123 for our best attempt, so there's definately hope. We got him down on monday after about 20 total attempts.

If you have any shadowpriests they can completely ignore the spores (unless they get one themselves of course) to increase their dps. Dispersion is on a 2 minute timer without the glyph, perfect for avoiding Pungent Blight. My dps went up at least 5% when I made the changeover.

Mages can ignore spores for half the fight by using iceblock on one pungent blight, although they don't have the self healing/damage reduction that shadow priests do to mitigate the raid damage.

The more healers you can put at ranged the better of course, but the healing on 3 inhales is no joke, so gotta be careful.

Good luck on him, hope you can get him down soon.

Yeah we already were doing that with Dispersion and Ice Block. As a moonkin I was even skipping out on a 3rd stack of Inoculation unless it was right next door, to use Barkskin each time. :( The only thing we could've done better was to assign spots for spores, I think, to cut down on the running, but a lot of spores didn't really have excessive running to begin with so I doubt we'd get that extra 10 seconds of dps we need out of it even so.

I'm kinda just hoping we skip him next week and either try Rotface, who by then we should have a decent amount of experience on from 2 weeks of 2 10 man groups, or I suppose the Blood Council will be available next week? Then the following week we can come back for Festergut with two weeks' extra loot on us. That or we get a raid with perfect attendance. :p Had one Mage this week that used to play a ton but hasn't for the past year, so is behind on gear and current theory, doing 4k, and a... half Prot half dps I don't really know what he is warrior doing 4.5k. But since we only raid twice a week it's pretty hard for us to find dedicated raiders that attend regularly, so that isn't really a bad raid for us to begin with. :p

I said he would be nerfed, and I don't think a small nerf is unreasonable (though Blizzard nor Sony back in EQ ever made small nerfs... ever), but I'm beginning to think Blizzard intends to let that Icecrown zonewide buff that eventually will show up be the nerf. I am kinda mixed on this. I think the idea is fine: better guilds have more of a challenge, while guilds tangibly worse than mine will eventually be able to kill the bosses on normal (as guilds like mine aren't behind by much, and a month or two of gear will make Festergut into a joke fight even without the zonewide buff). I do think it's problematic though, if all of the remaining bosses are Plagueworks+ difficulty, because I don't see that zonewide buff coming til the end of February? That's a long time off yet. Maybe we can go back to ToGC25 and actually help gear up there, though... hrm... :p Like I said we're doing way more dps then we were when we first beat Beasts25 hard, so by this point it should just be shaking some rust off when it comes to positioning during worms and whatnot and I don't think it should be that bad. Tank gear increases should make Gormok less RNG. How I hate thee, melee + Impale + Impale dot + war stomp thing he does lining up so near one another!

I think that Fester's output is gonna take a hit, as well as maybe 5% HP reduction.

We have two pretty well geared tanks (druid and DK), and they're just getting demolished by the damage @ 3 inhales. The 20% avoidance debuff really really sucks for them.

We dropped Festergut, but not rotface this week. Our challenge seems to always be movement and coordination fights, so I should not have been surprised. We only do 10s, but this is how we handled Fester -

We had two groups, melee and ranged. We had a priority list of people who would move if two spores appeared in the same group. Worked out fine.

We had our Druid offtank do the initial tanking. We tossed Guardian Spirit on him while he blew his cooldowns, and I was there with Lay on Hands if needs be. We used the druid because when he had 9 stacks, and the other tank took over, we could pop bloodlust and he went to cat form to maximize his contribution. We downed the boss with about 12 seconds to spare.
