If you can't kick a man when he's down, when can you kick him?

But on a more serious note, what Khross said.

If a kid throws a tantrum in a classroom, and screams and throws books at everyone, and is forcibly taken out, is it wrong to talk about him afterwards? Just saying...

yes it is. which is why I speak up when I generally stay out of Hellfire discussions.
But its apparently ok to ascribe various psychological disorders to members as long as they can't defend themselves.

It's also apparently ok to outright lie about the motivations or intent of others posters, despite evidence and statements clearly contradicting your assertions. Or, perhaps, you're simply insinuating that Beryllin is a liar.

Ah, but how can you be sure? Perhaps the people to whom you're attributing that opinion never intended to convey such an impression. ;)

Sure of what? What are you trying to say I was thinking?

Or that he hacked the board and modified the timestamps.

On the subject of technical feasibility, I thought that when the board was being configured, there was selected the option of being able to lock a user out of certain forums. Is my memory incorrect, or was that not viewed as an option for dealing with this build-up of incidents?

A question of interpretation is not a lie; Khross, and you know it. To paint it in black and white like that is beneath you.
I need not tag "In my interpretation" to every post. its assumed. Just as it is with you. But a difference of opinion about intent is NOT a lie.
A lie implies a willful changing or miscommunication of facts --something you KNOW and is extrordiarily frustrating to have to explain (simply because I don't like leaving your own mistruths unanswered)

(redefining lie is in-itself a lie so in this instance I am not insinuating anyone is a liar. I am stating: To call my judgement of Beryllin's motives a "lie" is in and of itself a lie, and as one who stated the lie, you, Khross, are a liar.)

As for Bery, I'm not calling him a liar. I'm stating that his post to start this thread comes across as a kick-'em-when-they're-down gloating. Regardless of intent, that is how I interpret it. And Some people dont understand their own motives as well as they think they do. They may rationalize it as a show of solidarity to the moderators but their real goal is something else.

Wait, so there is a absolute delineation between lying and misinterpretation? Didn't you just admonish Khross for painting things in black and white in that very post?

this is what I hate about arguing with you guys. In order to counter all the stupid things people say I have to spend 30 minutes defining the simplest of terms. There are a number of people who excel at this sort of smoke-screen obfuscation that by the time I counter all of the absurdities the point gets lost in the minutia (and I'm accused of strawmanning which is not the goal, but one must sometimes deconstruct the web of BS to reveal truth.)

No Rafael. The existance of a middle ground of what does and does not constitute a lie, does NOT preclude the judgement of some things to be wholy a lie or wholy a truth.

Ok, enough. I'm angry, which generally takes a lot to occur. I've proven TheRiov to be wrong, and he continues in spite of that. I cannot (and will not) express the anger that I'm feeling in any way that is appropriate for this board. I have not made a formal complaint to the mods, even though I feel I would be totally justified in doing so; I am not lodging a formal complaint to them now.

TheRiov, believe whatever you want.

I believe this requires setting up user groups for everyone, and then removing the offending user from the group that gives permission to access a certain forum.

This might require more administrative effort than Mookhow wishes to put into this, i'm not sure how friendly that interface is for phpBB.

This option does not exist normally in phpbb3. There is a workaround to make it work, but it's rather cumbersome, and I've not been motivated enough to set it up. Not to mention, it's something that only admins can do, not moderators.

I'm baffled as to what right you have to be upset. Even more baffled by how you think you've 'proven me wrong' since at NO point did I say "Beryllin is gloating over Monte being banned" I stated you were gloating. Azie added the bit about him being banned. Its a subtle difference but an important one as it makes your 'proof of innocence' utterly meaningless. (It would be even more meaningless if you were the one to report Monte in the first place (or someone else told you they did) and then posted this thread before any mod reply.

But since neither timeline is invalidated by your 'proof'; you've proven nothing. And you will be getting no apology.

And what else, exactly would he have been gloating over?

I'll make a usually untold detail public and say that Beryllin had no part in the reporting-spree that took place yesterday, at all. He wasn't involved in any of it.

So what? Read what I wrote in context to what you said. If anyone has to detangle a web of bullshit around here, it's certainly not exclusive to you. An absolute delineation between what constitutes a lie and misinterpretation doesn't change the quailty or nature of someone's post, except where one might define that line to make the definition suit one's purposes. That would be fairly dishonest.

Moreover, when someone challenges you on concepts (an act you describe as saying "stupid things", "smoke screen obfuscations", "absurdities" and constructing "web[s] of bullshit") that you glean over as rudimentary and simple, maybe you should just step off that pedestal and reexamine what you know you know, or think you know. Of course, that idea that they are allegedly so elementary and undebatable says a lot about one's own ego.

Not to mention, you are grasping to saran-wrap hat technical conspiracy theories involving which thought was attributed to which timestamp once someone called you on your bullshit.

No, of course not. I am suggesting that those who dish out the punishment need to be able to take it. If people are going to bash monte publicly they cannot turn around and report him.

I don't know if I'm included in your target audience or not, but since you quoted several things I said as examples, I'm going to assume that this was directed, at least in part, at me. If that's the case, I think you've gotten the wrong idea about what went down, here.

1) I wasn't "bashing" Montegue. I was trying to dissuade him from a course that couldn't possibly end well for him. If you'll excuse me for quoting myself:
Stathol wrote:
Ok, fine. Keep going down that road, and let me know how it turns out. Just don't expect any sympathy from me when you get yourself banned again for this petty nonsense. That'll show 'em!

The writing was on the wall. I'm sorry to say that this is pretty much exactly the way things turned out. I didn't want Montegue to get suspended, but it was obvious to me that that was where things were headed if someone didn't talk him out of it.

2) I didn't report any of Montegue's posts. In point of fact, I've never reported a post by anyone on any incarnation of the Glade. So if you have the idea that I'm somehow involved in getting him suspended, you're barking up the wrong tree entirely.

As for the specific complaints you've raised:

Stathol wrote:
King Monte

This comment was not intended as insult or name-calling. In context, I was merely trying to draw attention to the idea that what is acceptable to post on the Glade should not be subject to the personal sensibilities of any one person, as if they were an autocrat, king, dictator, etc.

Stathol wrote:
Offending you is about as difficult as falling off a log

The language may be a bit more colorful, but this is equivalent to saying "you're overly sensitive". If that qualifies as a personal attack, then I really don't know what to say other than: "you're overly sensitive". :/

Really, if you're going to ding me for something, ding me for saying he should "grow the **** up".

You know what? I'm sick of this.

The decision was made. It's final. It was fair. It had to be done. If you disagree, you are wrong. End of story.

Any further argument over the matter will be given a warning.

Thread locked. (On the 69th reply, no less. I'm good.)
