Their image had nothing to do with the PotUS stating that "businesses [shouldn't] go there."

Amusement aside, I think you're misperceiving the outcry. It isn't that somebody lambasted Vegas. That happens in probably thousands of churches a month.

It is that the President of the United States has now lambasted the place twice, negatively impacting the livelihoods and lives of both businesses and citizens. At best, that's shitty "leadership."

Folks on the business end of Las Vegas tourism say it is critical for potential visitors to distinguish between professional and party aspects of the city.

I read the article, Arafys. Thanks for providing another perspective.

You are arguing people speaking their minds is an indictment of free speech? That doesn't really make sense.

Chew on that.

No.

He's arguing that many people are here pro-free speech, and that he thinks it is "amused" (likely meaning finds it contradictory) for those same pro-free speech advocates to be decrying something the PotUS said. In other words, he thinks we're speaking for censorship. So that would make sense, except as both Khross and I have now said, that isn't what we're doing.

Don't hate bro. Just cause Screeling upended you in a deuce off (nothing to be ashamed of, that's like getting losing to Usain Bolt in a foot race), doesn't mean you have to project your size insecurities on me.

Not hating. Didn't say you were "small." Just "smaller than DFK!." I'm not trying to outshine your light... I'm just the Sun. 8-)

The Sun? I think you've been staring into the sun too long ... you need to borrow some sunglasses from your little smiley face there.

I completely agree.

However, it is LAUGHABLE that anyone is up in arms about this comment. Let's look at it a little more closely.

Obama wrote:
You don't blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college.

Now, it is VERY obvious from the phrasing of the sentence that what he's talking about here is gambling/entertainment, not going there to have a business conference. One doesn't "blow a bunch of cash" on a business trip or meeting, they do it on the slots or roulette. And doing that when you're trying to save for college IS stupid and to be discouraged.

The same statement. One can cause harm, the other not.

I agree with Aizle... the amount of reaction to the comment is out of proportion to the effect of the comment.

As I said before, pointing out the absolute contradiction between the words of the President on responsible spending and their stated goal "spend our way out of the recession" is worth more discussion. Or perhaps, if you want to focus on the the previous speech from the President, take his comment about how banks shouldn't be using taxpayer dollars for the Superbowl and compare that with the $2.5 million ad the Census is getting ready to spend on Superbowl advertising.

It's canned outrage but he said something similar before and got in trouble for it, even apologized, then said it again. It's pretty lol you must admit!

It's also true that if you say it, no big deal, but if the POTUS says it it has more weight.

Except, the President has already demonstrably harmed the convention/professional hospitality industry in Vegas with such comments in the past. And, if you think the comment is totally innocuous, look at the state of charter aviation and private aviation in the U.S. since the President's snit over GM Execs using private aircraft to travel to D.C. last year.
