I have a coworker that believes this entirely, he sits next to (arguably) the hottest woman in the Department and marvels that I can talk to her and not babble incoherently. He has his earphones in most of the time, not just to listen to music but to keep from hearing guys 'wander' by to chat her up and failing miserably.

He asked me how I can not lose it around her. He has a hard time himself besides repeated exposure to her. I've told him, "she's happily married, has a kid, she is young enough to be my daughter, and doesn't flirt with me. Why should I lose it over an unobtainable hottie I have almost nothing in common with and jeopardize my access to one of the best Analysts in the building?

He doesn't understand, I've also told him that the hormones slow down past 50, he's in his mid-30s, single, and a horn-dog. Sometimes I think they sat him next to her so he could get fired for sexual inappropriate behavior. He's controlled himself so far, except conversationally when we're out of the building.

He doesn't understand that not all guys have raging hormones that leave them incoherent around beautiful women.

I'm not sure if it's the hormone thing... I flirt with all the women at work to the point that they all know it's just flattery and not hormones. I'm of the opinion it's 'cause I know that I have absolutely no intention of doing anything with any woman other than my wife, so my inner horndog never gets out of his hibernation state.

Yes, I flirt in the same manner at work, with the women who like it and flirt back. The women who want to keep it purely professional, I do that too.

I work it harder for these types.

When my bosses bosses boss (60 years old director, probably 800 or so report to her) walks down the hall and I do a "Hellooooo Peggy" with the trademark grin, she's got the same grin and a "Helloooo David"...several years it took to turn that one.

I met my wife at work, so I can play with a clear conscious, 'cause she KNOWS. She was one of the MOST "keep it professional" of the keep it professional types.
