HP, bandages, etc...

Random samples, based largely on when I have screenshots that show my HP!

June 9, 2008, first Amani war bear for my guild -- with Fort and GotW, just shy of 10k hp. This was before we killed any bosses in BT and only ... 2 or maybe 3 total kills of Hyjal bosses, so it's predominantly T5 gear. A Heavy Netherweave bandage then would've been about a third of my hp in a raid.

July 19, 2009, Firefighter 10 man -- with Fort, GotW, Kings, and food, at 22k hp. This was a few months into Ulduar, though my guild didn't have more than a few kills on most of the later Ulduar25 bosses. Average ilvl is still probably close to 226, though perhaps a bit below. Still probably close enough to call it pretty thoroughly T8 geared. I think I'm around 26k hp fully buffed now, though it's hard to say with Hellscream's Warsong. I was probably around 20k in T7, with a stretch of 20k-26k or so for the expansion for me. A Heavy Frostweave back during Firefighter would've been just over a quarter of my hp.

July 1, 2011 -- ?? Who knows! I am a bit skeptical of the 1300 sta leaked blue cloak. That would be an upgrade over my current ilvl 264 cloak by 1231 stamina -- after Kings, this is an increase in health by over 13500 hp. From my cloak alone. My ilvl 264 chestpiece has close to double the sta my cloak does, so a similar chest upgrade would tack on something like 26000 more hp. These two upgrades + all my other current WotLK gear would put me over 50k hp already... with 11-12 more stamina-giving upgrades to go. Cloaks are pretty low on stamina, too. Eyeballing my Armory, assuming that 1300 sta on the cloak is standardized in a similar fashion to stamina nowadays, I'd be expecting the average upgrade to be 20,000 hp. 11 more upgrades at 20k hp each = 220k added to that 50k.... 270k hp? Dense Embersilk would be only 1/8th of my hp at that point.

Still, HP will almost certainly be going up by a lot, even if that 1300 sta cloak is blatantly fabricated, something misleading, stamina gives less hp, or item ratios change.

Some more assumptions to make! Dense Embersilk is, I believe, going to be the 3rd tier of bandage. Embersilk -> Heavy Embersilk -> Dense Embersilk. If you want to compare bandages, you'd have to compare Heavy Embersilk to Heavy Frostweave, but the problem is they are putting some conscious emphasis on bandages this time around and it seems likely they won't stick to the old formula. If they do, you basically multiply a current bandage by .825ish to get the value for the previous tier. 28.5k or so. If at a certain point of progression we say that this bandage would be, eh, 28.5% of your hp total, that would be 100k hp for a typical healer. If they pull a fast one on us and balance bandages around the best one but keep to the old percentages (making normal and Heavy bandages relatively worse than they are today), this would be Dense at around 30% of your hp with a result of 116k hp.

But... it's a whole lot of guessing either way. This current friends and family stage won't last very long, and we'll have a proper, non-NDA beta soon to answer all our questions.

edit: Also, from the wording on that professions preview, it seems like bandages will have a "short" cast time with the usual heal over 8 seconds that can be broken by damage. This will go a long way towards making them more usable. Basically you could use one for only a "short" time spent casting it, and provided you're not getting hurt within the next few seconds it's all sweet. There would be a lot of opportunities for this in current content.

This will provide an answer for the sea of frostweave my alts/mules are swimming in, at least!

With a few more leaks that have come out, it's become obvious that the cloak is bugged. It most likely should have 135 sta instead of the 1357 that it has. 135 is still a lot on a cloak, but nothing like the craziness that 1357 sta was.

No gear leaks yet for anything beyond the first instance or two and zone yet, so it's still hard to guess what 85 quest/dungeon gear will look like.

I am thinking that this will be the first expansion that will have epics from quests though. I'm talking non-dungeon or raid related ones. I was actually expecting a couple in wotlk, but there was a large increase in blues from quests. I think a few low stat slot epics would be fine for quests, and hell, would have been nice for a few of the huge questlines in icecrown that were such a pain to do because of the whole phasing issue. They'd obviously have to be lower ilvl than dungeons are giving.

I'm kind of annoyed that blizz moved to close up all the alpha leaks they could though. There's really not much to look forward to right now. Ruby Sanctum will be out around the end of the month, but it doesn't seem all that interesting. I don't expect 3.3.9 to come out until at least a month after the icc buff hits 30%, putting that in August at best. That will be interesting to see, but most likely won't have enough stuff to last more than a month or so. Then it's the waiting game until cata. All in all, it's just kind of a boring time in WoW.

When the actual beta starts things will pick up for a bit though, sometime in June I'd think. Beta would last around six months, putting cataclysm out in November or December. Seems like a likely timeline, but that's a long time to go without any significant content additions.

I could see an epic or two from long questlines. If the Wrathgate culminated at level 80, I wouldn't have felt it out of place to have an ilvl 200 epic from that. So long as there wasn't an epic for every slot for someone I think it would retain its unique coolness. Epic questlines steeped in lore kinda deserve em, and yet people won't end up fully geared with no reason to run first tier of content. Maybe with 10 and 25 sharing same quality loot, I'd drop the ilvl down a bit below it, but ultimately (and unlike today's emblem system) it's limited well by the fact that you'd only have the ability to get 2-3 max.

And past dates for WotLK beta process... make of them what you will!

End of May (20?) - friends and family alpha started
July 17 - beta begins
Nov 13 - expansion goes live!

If it follows the same timeline, it would be what.. July 1stish for start of beta, Nov 1stish for live. Maybe the 13th or Thanksgiving week is looking fine again? I can't imagine it will be any later, but there isn't much data to go on here so who knows.

Bleh, it takes them freaking *forever* to do anything.

And then the ****'s still broke when it releases :p

Ruby Sanctum...

1 boss. Really? Really Blizz? A raid instance with one freaking boss is taking you *this* long to release?

Fail.

The biggest disappointment of WotLK(aside from Arthas not winning) is there was no troll raid instance. WTF, Blizzard?

My bet's still on 3.2 having been planned to be a troll instance in the Gun'Drak area. When they got a lot of crap about trolls or perhaps decided they didn't have the time to put together a full raid there we got the half assed ToC.

That's the whole thing. They have all kinds of crap leading up to it...and then nothing. No resolution. Of course, it wouldn't be the first time a series of quests led up to nothing and never got finished, but...well, it just seems right to have a troll raid. Call it tradition.

Also, that zone was my favorite in the entire expansion.

Deathwing and Garrosh are bad. Oh so bad.

Deathwing's human model isn't proportioned properly in the lower body. His legs are WAY too short. and Garrosh is all bloated and such. I mean, look at his left arm...

I think its an optical illusion with Deathwing, since the way the armour is crafted, it makes it appear those spines on the leg plates are the joints for the knee. But if you scroll your window so the top of the frame lines up with waist, his feet and waist line up with everyone elses.

But what is with the dwarf with feathers on his arms?

Malfurion? Yeh, that bugs me too.

My guess is that they were compressed or altered so they all fit in a line up.

That's no excuse for bigarm and stubbylegs.

Yes, but she was an Elvish Ranger before Arthas converted her.

Another whelp? Really?

Blizzard, you are just phoning it in now. At least change the model from Frosty, even just a little bit!

That's a pretty meh collector's edition. I'll probably go reserve a copy just in case, I can always ebay it later on or something if I want too.

While I admit he does look more badass than the other whelps..... I am kind of sick of whelps as the special pets. The original CE was awesome because you got not one, not two, but THREE pets. And all of them were on the opposite spectrums of the type of pet they are. Mini Diablo, Zergling, and a Panda cub.

Come on Blizzard, where's the diversity again? Were you bombarded with hate-mail and death threats from rabid pet collectors that you figure if you just release variations of a whelp (without even giving them new animations for jeebus' sake) that these insane collectors won't hunt you down in international waters while on one of your many yachts?
