29% is a hell of a large percentage when you're talking about offending people.

Inoffensive, but moderately aggressive in tone.

Well if someone was offended and it wasn't your intention to do so shouldn't you just explain you didn't mean any offense if that you're that worried about it?

Nope, I let your on-line personality create a prejudice in how I view you. Same thing others here have earned... everybody's special, you're just special in a ... special ... way.

It's all you, baby. You earned the rep, revel in it instead of try to deny it.

Just so you know, it's also telling that you want to draw the line at "offensive". Had you asked if the expression was disrespectful, rude, insulting, etc., could be you would have learned something. I did notice that it looked like you googled the expression you used, then ignored the first couple of hits. Was that because they described it as rude?

Personally, I draw the line at "disrespectful". That said, I have no problem going over the line if someone is an asshat, but that's me. I'm also one that doesn't wimp out - if I cross the line I don't have some deep seated desire to be "right", or look for an appeal to popularity to validate my behavior.

Want to be insulted? Be my guest. I'm pretty much a "love me or leave me" kinda guy...which might explain the 2 X's, but it is what it is.

I did indeed Google it. I didn't ignore anything though, so I'm not sure where you're pulling that from.

This is truly interesting, because the "no problem going over the line" thing is the same thing you are, and have, been agitated with me about in the past.

Why would I be insulted? You're being civil.

I don't know if they were offended. Shelgeyr didn't say he was. What happened was that further insults were cast at me after I said that. This, in turn, made me wonder about the phrase itself.

Useful insight, thanks.

I'm not sure I agree with either of these statements, mainly because I'm not sure where "the line" should ever be drawn. How big (or small) a percentage is too large to risk offending? I mean, as an extreme example, have you ever said "Holy cow?" You just risked offending 18% of the global population.

Given that 76% of American adults self-identify as Christian, I think using saying, "OMG!" or some other varient would be a far better example to illustrate your point, DFK!.

Oh, I'm not agitated, nor do I think you've gone over any line ... I think you jumped at the chance to claim that offense was made in the thread in General... so eager to find that someone writing "WTF is wrong with you people?" an insult so you can do what looks like an attempt to validate some self-victimization or hypersensitivity issues you seem to possess, especially since the question posed wasn't directed at anyone in paticular. Then I think you expanded the disagreement by creating this thread instead of just accepting what folks think of you based on that exhibit.

It's that apparent hypersensitivity, the conclusion that insults have been made when there clearly wasn't, that, coupled with what appears to be your intense insecurity, gives me cause to remark on how well others had identified your propensity to do so. I do find it remarkable... so I offer remark.

You shouldn't go around thinking that because some people may believe you're an asshat that they are agitated. It's merely an observation. There's no emotion in simple observation while agitation is essentially emotional in nature.

Yes, well I highly doubt that 25% of the Christian population of the US would be offended at OMG.

You're missing context here. "Shove off" is a command. It's an action you are telling the other to take. OMG is an exclamation.

Consider the phrase "be quiet". This is completely non-offensive language. Consider the phrase "Holy F...". I assume we can all agree this is universally considered offensive language.

I would place money on the command "be quiet" pissing off many more people than the exclamation "holy F" (assuming of course you're on the street and not in a church or school).

Yeah, in my opinion this thread should have been closed as soon as the other was. Still, someone specifically asks you a question or engages you in the discussion, you tell them the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth...either that or you just ignore them.

Nothing wrong with that, though what I find remarkable is your willingness to overlook insulting behavior based upon who, basically, your interpretation of what is insulting. Insult is subjective, hence this thread, actually.

I just finally figured out why we're even having this thread.

I'd say shove off is a lot less offensive thatn lecturing people on why they're supposed to find people "hawt".

Interesting... so you do think it's offensive, you just think it's less offensive than lecturing people.

That wasn't the question, and in fact it touches on aspects that haven't been highlighted as of yet.

Now the only question I have is whether your testicles and/or brain has shrunk to the proportions necessary to inspire you to start another thread with a poll to validate your opinion.

Obviously it's at least somewhat offensive. I don't particularly care about the semantic hair-splitting between "offensive" versus "rude", "insulting" or what have you. I realize it wasn't the question, but that's my opinion on the entire matter; the poll question doesn't exist in a vaccuum.

You're right that it touches on another matter; specifically that a few people seem to think that it's their job to lecture everyone else on the right way to find women "hawt" on the internet, regardless of whether those others have even heard of the women in question before or know anything about them beyond the posted pictures. It also brings up the question of why those of use who are already married would care about the "complete package" of some woman on the internet who, even if we weren't married, we'd have almost no chance with.

As for the opinion poll, no, I'm not planning on staring one unles you really want me to, in which case I might be assed to take the 2 or 3 minutes to make one. I stated my opinion. I don't give a **** if it's popular.

Especially when they specify physical attributes that contribute to making them "hawt", and then say it's not the physical that does it, it's their other qualities.
