Just so you know, it's also telling that you want to draw the line at "offensive". Had you asked if the expression was disrespectful, rude, insulting, etc., could be you would have learned something. I did notice that it looked like you googled the expression you used, then ignored the first couple of hits. Was that because they described it as rude?
I did indeed Google it. I didn't ignore anything though, so I'm not sure where you're pulling that from.

Personally, I draw the line at "disrespectful". That said, I have no problem going over the line if someone is an asshat, but that's me. I'm also one that doesn't wimp out - if I cross the line I don't have some deep seated desire to be "right", or look for an appeal to popularity to validate my behavior.
This is truly interesting, because the "no problem going over the line" thing is the same thing you are, and have, been agitated with me about in the past.

Want to be insulted? Be my guest. I'm pretty much a "love me or leave me" kinda guy...which might explain the 2 X's, but it is what it is.
Why would I be insulted? You're being civil.

Well if someone was offended and it wasn't your intention to do so shouldn't you just explain you didn't mean any offense if that you're that worried about it?
I don't know if they were offended. Shelgeyr didn't say he was. What happened was that further insults were cast at me after I said that. This, in turn, made me wonder about the phrase itself.

Inoffensive, but moderately aggressive in tone.
Useful insight, thanks.

Why use it if it offends 25%? We're not talking about a phrase with any significant value.

29% is a hell of a large percentage when you're talking about offending people.
I'm not sure I agree with either of these statements, mainly because I'm not sure where "the line" should ever be drawn. How big (or small) a percentage is too large to risk offending? I mean, as an extreme example, have you ever said "Holy cow?" You just risked offending 18% of the global population.
