Sports Cannot.
stand. I literally do not understand the appeal. Now, keep in mind I'm not talking about the activity itself...I fully support going out and playing with friends, having fun with family after a Thanksgiving dinner, etc.. That is
activity being performed
by you. But there is a world of disconnect for me with the idea that people attach their egos to players, or schools, or teams with whom they have utterly no connection. What is the appeal of watching a sporting event? Why are you a fan of this person? He/she/that team cares absolutely nothing about you, has no idea who you are, and are nothing to you but a name and stats. I can even understand getting into a sports-based
movie...then, the people for whom you root are
characters, they're overcoming obstacles...if the writing and acting are done well enough, you've
reason to care about them.
If it makes you happy, go for it. Enjoy it to your heart's content. But this is The Big One That I Don't Understand. There are many things which I
understand but with which I
disagree. But with this, there's a complete disconnect between myself and the ability to even
understand this one.
Ice Cream Not a huge fan (I don't generally have much of a sweet tooth), but Dippin' Dots are teh yum.
Online Console Gaming I'm not a huge fan of online gaming period, I suppose. I like hopping on with friends from here, or RL friends with whom I haven't reconnected in a while, but to just get online and play with random strangers? Not really my cup of tea. It helps that the kinds of games I enjoy generally focus on the single-player.
Dancing/Clubbing Never really dug this one. I'm not a big drinker, I feel stupid dancing, and I hate cigarette smoke. No thanks.
Texting I don't get why people get so butt-hurt about texting. If you don't like it, don't do it...but it's a handy way to communicate to people when A) it's hard to hear, B) an easy way to have a reference, particularly if the opposite party isn't currently able to write down information, and C) you just need to get a message across quickly without the rigamarole of normal conversation.
Going to Movies How do you
not enjoy going to the movies? It's like church to me. Much like church, I do hate when people are being disruptive or loud, but you know what? The downside to social events
is that they have other people there. Deal with it.
The Beach Ugh. Much H9. Sand gets everywhere, most beaches are polluted festering trash disposals, and the last time I went to the beach I wound up with some sort of hellish allergic reaction on my back that lasted for days. If I never again visit a beach it'll be too soon.
Lost I was mildly impressed by the first season (Phe liked it more than I did), but the quality dip in the second season made me shy away, and upon further reflection, I just didn't care for the show enough on the whole to bother with the rest.
Social Networking It's OK. A nice time-killer, particularly if you don't have the patience to be a dedicated blogger.
Cars I'm not a mechanic, and have no interest in being one. That's a life skill I'm just going to skip. I'm not interested in what's under the hood, or any other gearhead talk. I just want something that looks at least moderately attractive, gets me where I want to go and back, and has an air conditioner. Cruise is a welcome addition.
Phones I'm actually not a big fan at all of talking on the phone. Which is odd, as I love my phone and it's become one of the main hubs of electronic life. I just find the actual
phone functionality to be...largely unimportant. Talking on the phone takes a particular type of energy that I really, really don't have. I feel absolutely
drained afterward.
Reality Television H9. Next.
Rap/Hip-Hop/R&B Music Again, this is one I simply don't "get." These musical genres hold no interest for me. I'm quite eclectic in my tastes, though in general I trend toward classic rock, blues, classic country, and showtunes (yeah, deal with it...they're full of exuberance and fun to sing, and for them I make no apologies). The most offensive on this list, however, is easily "R&B." Mainly, I think, because they appropriated the name of "rhythm and blues," which is completely different (and good...but I repeat myself). It doesn't help that the entire genre is standard uninteresting boilerplate pablum.
Computer Non-MMO Gaming Computers are great for work. They're great for MMOs (RTSes too, I suppose, but I don't like strategy games). Any other game, if at all possible, I will play on a console. For the most part, I simply don't enjoy gaming on the PC.

Movies: Watching movement on a screen makes me feel ill. The bigger the screen is the worse it affects me. And I can read a book faster than I can watch the movie, so why bother?
Because it's a completely different experience? I mean, if the medium doesn't work with your biology, I understand that, but saying "And I can read a book faster than I can watch the movie, so why bother?" is like saying "I can fly a kite more easily than I can rescue a drowning baby from a hungry alligator, so why bother?" Different purposes, different experiences, apples and oranges.
